Hello,
I recently got a 4870x2, and it's performed well for the last couple of weeks. But my friends suggested that it would perform much better if I flashed it with the ASUS Top BIOS. Being stupid enough to get talked into it, I tried flashing it using ATIFlash and DOS. I flashed it with the two files included (Master and Slave) but I think I mixed it up, because the next time I tried booting up the computer, nothing showed up. So I tried pulling out one of my 6600GTs from my old computer I had lying around, and put it into my system and booted it again, I could then see my boot menu. Great! I thought, I booted into Windows Vista, and downloaded stock Sapphire 4870x2 files from here http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/.
I flashed my 4870X2 again with these files the same way I did before, this time when I rebooted, it started up fine, however, there where artifacts EVERYWHERE. I thought there was a problem with the overclock, so I went into CCC and set it to default values, restarted the computer and the same thing, artifacts on the desktop and even when booting up the computer. I thought it was my i7 920 overclocked, so I set back to default values in the BIOS and tried again. Same thing, Windows Vista works fine, I can use the internet and it's stable, and there were no artifacts on the desktop, so I tried Call of Duty: World at War, there where still artifacts everywhere! I can't figure out what's wrong. I remembered I tried backing up the 4870X2 BIOS using GPU-Z. I got one file. R700.bin, then I remembered there were 2 cores in the 4870x2, so I selected the second one from the drop down menu, and clicked the button next to the BIOS again and backed it up to R7002.bin. I don't know if these will help in any way, and I'm scared to flash it again after what happened the first time. And I don't know which file is the Slave and which is the Master BIOS. I've tried uninstalling the original CCC drivers and running driver cleaner, then reinstalling. Still artifacts. Have I permanently damaged this card? Can I still use the backup?
My System:
- i7 920 Not overclocked
- Sapphire 4870X2
- Corsair TX750W
- 3GB DDR3 RAM
- (2) 500GB HD
- ASUS P6T Deluxe
