Flash BIOS failure. (Artifacts! EVERYWHERE!)

Hello,

I recently got a 4870x2, and it's performed well for the last couple of weeks. But my friends suggested that it would perform much better if I flashed it with the ASUS Top BIOS. Being stupid enough to get talked into it, I tried flashing it using ATIFlash and DOS. I flashed it with the two files included (Master and Slave) but I think I mixed it up, because the next time I tried booting up the computer, nothing showed up. So I tried pulling out one of my 6600GTs from my old computer I had lying around, and put it into my system and booted it again, I could then see my boot menu. Great! I thought, I booted into Windows Vista, and downloaded stock Sapphire 4870x2 files from here http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/.
I flashed my 4870X2 again with these files the same way I did before, this time when I rebooted, it started up fine, however, there where artifacts EVERYWHERE. I thought there was a problem with the overclock, so I went into CCC and set it to default values, restarted the computer and the same thing, artifacts on the desktop and even when booting up the computer. I thought it was my i7 920 overclocked, so I set back to default values in the BIOS and tried again. Same thing, Windows Vista works fine, I can use the internet and it's stable, and there were no artifacts on the desktop, so I tried Call of Duty: World at War, there where still artifacts everywhere! I can't figure out what's wrong. I remembered I tried backing up the 4870X2 BIOS using GPU-Z. I got one file. R700.bin, then I remembered there were 2 cores in the 4870x2, so I selected the second one from the drop down menu, and clicked the button next to the BIOS again and backed it up to R7002.bin. I don't know if these will help in any way, and I'm scared to flash it again after what happened the first time. And I don't know which file is the Slave and which is the Master BIOS. I've tried uninstalling the original CCC drivers and running driver cleaner, then reinstalling. Still artifacts. Have I permanently damaged this card? Can I still use the backup?

My System:

- i7 920 Not overclocked
- Sapphire 4870X2
- Corsair TX750W
- 3GB DDR3 RAM
- (2) 500GB HD
- ASUS P6T Deluxe

well, no you havent killed the card, you should be slapping yaself on the back for making those backups and punching yourself in the crutch for being an idiot.

when you were looking at bios flashing didnt you see the masses of posts just like yours now?

as i was reading your post i was dreading you hadnt made those backups. are they both 128kb in size?

card 0 is the first bios, card 1 is the second, if you want you can use atiflash -i to confirm this first.

atiflash -f -p 0 R700.bin
atiflash -f -p 1 R7002.bin

I believe you have Sapphire v1.2 which is not compatible with Asus TOP bios.
I have both card (v1.1 and v1.2) ,and v.1.2 had same issues with artifact if flashed with v1.1 (or Asus TOP), but fortunately I backed up all bios.

If you need the bios, just tell me your address, I'll send them to you..

Thanks

Made the same mistake, "forgot" to make backup copies tho >_>. So if anyone has the 113-b50902-104 version for master 113-b50902-105 for slave, it'd be great 😀
