flicker at high refresh rate

i have a GeForce4 MX460 (64MB DDR) and a monitor that Tom's says should display easily at 1280x1024/90Hz. When I set the monitor at that rez I can only run at 60Hz, and any raising causes a flicker (yes, i know - that's backwards).

It is a Sony HMD-A400; an 18" viewable digital multi-scan crt that recommends 1280x1024@75Hz. The display flickers (or maybe I should describe it as "shaking") Strangely, I just found out, the cheaper HMD-A440 is supposed to be run higher at 1280x1024@85Hz...I don't understand that one.

Anyways, the nVidia GeForce4 MX 440 64MB DDR (PNY Technologies) supports the 1280x1024@75Hz (32 bit color) and a bit more. I have even checked the PNY website for an updated driver but that didn't help either (nor did PNY answer my email!)

I put in the graphics card that came with the computer last night (nVidia TNT2 M64 32MB SDR, also brand new) to test the new card and it couldn't display the higher refresh rates without a flicker either.

Could this be due to the XP refreshrate bug? You did'nt mention your OS.

yes, my OS is XP Home Ed. Their support page had no information on refresh rate problems due to their OS. What is this bug? Is their a fix?

i dont think it is an epox 8kha MB... it is a P4 based board in a sony vaio.

I run my Visiontek TI 4600 on Windows XP on an Asus P4t at all resolutions at 85Hz cept 1600x1200 which the monitor only supports in 60Hz and I never get a flicker at any setting...So this bug obviously isnt with all XP / Nvidia combos.
