My "A" Drive or Floppy Disk Drive doesn't read or even
recognize the disk more than half the time. Since the
computer was still under warranty with HP, I was sent a
replacement part. I got it installed and it worked just
fine for awhile but the same problems are happening
again. It tells me to insert the disk when I've already
inserted it or tells me it's unable to read from the
disk. A few of the files became damaged when I attempted
to open them and so I copied all my floppies back onto my
hard drive just in case. I'm totally baffled by this. I
use Windows XP Home Edition SP1. Can anyone shed any
light on this? I would appreciate it.

your floppy disk drive may very well be faulty, perhaps
buying a new one would help

they are cheap, so getting a new one may work

to the above post, try buying one that isnt by the same
supplier as your other drives, they may all be faulty,
check for drivers, it may not be installed correctly

Did HP send you a replacement floppy drive?

If you installed it correctly and it has been working well for a while and
now is unreliable, I would check out the physcial environment.

A lot of dust, animal hair, carpet fibres etc are drawn into the floppy
drive because of the system cooling fans.

Try placing the PC off the floor and also run a vacuum cleaner across the
flap, once you've removed all this dust try a disc head cleaner.
