I have the GA-8IHXP (rev. 3) mobo and my 1.44MB floppy drive isnt functioning
anymore. More specifically, it will read floppies some of the time, but will
not write to them. When it does attempt a write, the drive makes a loud
grinding noise and the light stays lit for a while, then it goes out and nothing
is written, or a corrupted file is written to the floppy disk.

I swapped out the defective drive and replaced it with 3 different brands of
1.44MB floppy drives (all brand new) as well as brand new pack of disks, and
none of them seem to work! Thus, something on the mobo has malfunctioned. I
checked the pins on the female floppy connector and they seem to be straight. I
replaced the floppy cable and still no luck.

Has this happened to anyone before? I dont want to replace the mobo just to get
a functioning floppy drive. I might just live without it, or get a USB floppy
drive. I thought they made a PCI card that had a floppy connector, but I cant
seem to find one on the net.....do they make these?

Have you tried different media?

By different I meant media from a vendor other than the supplier of the
"new pack" of disks you mentioned.

Yes I tried different brands of media. It really is a malfunction on the board,
although I never heard of a floppy drive going bad on the main board.

There are two floppy ports, switch connectors on the cable then swap A>B
in the BIOS, see if it works then.
