Floppy drive with new notebook?

I'm in the process of purchasing a new notebook. I need a floppy drive because there is a lot of software my industry uses that is DOS based. This is offline editing software for computerized lighting control boards. (I currently use a dual boot W98/XP setup) I edit the shows on my notebook and export to a floppy disk. I can then use this disk in the floppy drive of the lighting board to load my show into the board. The software, of course, exports to the "A:" drive.
Most of the new notebooks have no floppy drive. I was told by a salesman that I could use a USB floppy drive and rename it as an "A:" drive and it would work. I, naturally, distrusted this opinion.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,
Dan

Well, FDDs are going the way of the dinosaur, and in reality they waste a lot of space on notebooks, as most users will never use them. The salesman, however, is quite correct (wait that can't be right 😛) about the USB option. It doesn't matter whether or no the drive is labled "A:" or "J:", does it? That's beside the point, as you can make the USB FDD "A:" anyway. Unless you find a notebook with an integrated FDD, I'm afraid thats pretty much your only option.
