Question Fluctuating mhz issues on 144mhz monitor when gaming ?

Hey!
I'm a bit if a Noob.. I recently purchased a z271 acer predator 27 inch monitor. I'm using a DP cable and I'm getting 144mhz on windows. Great. Well I load up 'squad' and my mhz starts jumping up and down causing lighting issues ect. Any idea why this would be? Any advice would be great!
Graphics card is a 1660 super 6gb

Mhz, it tells me the mhz limit on the upper right side of the monitor

Weirdly.. I turned off gsync and it stopped this issue? I thought it would have the opposite effect? Now I'm more confused lol

gsync sycn the fps to the monitor hz. since your gpu can't output 144fps. it make the montior hz lower.

I thought hz and fps where separate when dealing with gysnc? Does that mean it's my 1660 supers inability to give me enough fps? I'm new at all this so apologies if I don't make sense lol

You should run a program that shows your fps, that way you know.

Well when I playing squad I average around 70 fps, so if I'm running 144mhz with gsync on why would this cause issues?
I'm still confused as I thought the purpose of gsync was to eliminate any of these issues. Thanks

I'll run this with gsync on when I'm home to see if it has changed my fps

Gsync's purpose is to match your frame rate to the display's refresh rate, as in Hertz, so you don't get misaligned frames known as tearing. It's a better way of syncing than Vsync which introduces input lag from mouse and keyboard because the display has to wait while Gsync displays frames as it happens.

My experience with Gsync has been great. It's not to elevate frame rates, that's not what it does. If you turn off Gsync, all you'll have is static refresh rate and that can cause tearing and artifacting as frames aren't synced. But such high Hz you might not notice, or at least until you do, then you can't unsee it.

Also sometimes, as per your OP, if game is experiencing Gsync issues it could very well be driver related as that's happened before, or it's the game itself. Search if other people are having Gsync issues with your game and take note of the driver version if mentioned. Might as well try an older or two or three Geforce versions back.

You may have had vsync on in game. Test Gsync with vsync on/off
