For gaming and rendering GTX 960 or R9 280x

Guys i need help.. i like gaming but i also do rendering work like ( blender 3d, 3d max, after effect , cinema 4d and other )

I'm really interested with the r9 280x.. can it render as well as the GTX 960?

or r9 280x is just gaming all the way?

i do 40% rendering and 60% gaming

 
Oh if he is in USA then go for 960. In UK go for r9 380. I have seen UK prices for 380 cheaper than the 960 by few £s. But then again some USA stores may sell 380s at the same range of 960s. I think the 380 has more ups than the 960 does and better value for money.

And I said r9 380 not 280X, I stopped recommending the 280x already, R9 380 is better value if at the 960s price or cheaper

Please dont try to say nvidia's extra features make 960 better cause really its just a dash of sprinkles above the cupcake that will hardly give performance boost worth praising. Its like apple slapping on their logo and taaadaaaa the device is extra special just for a logo....?
 


I don't think that is a big issue mate, you OC a 960 you hardly see a difference, that possibly occurs with the r9 380. If you want OC to really boost you, you need aftermarket cooler or water loop. A GPU coming with a brand OC setting usually isnt enough, most users need to go past a brand's set OC to notice a difference.
 


Mate just go to your desired retailer, which ever is cheaper between the 960 and r9 380 go for either 4gb versions to help with rendering. I think one thing is for sure hardly a noticeable difference. AMD and nvidia hardly differ when GPUs are in par, some may say the features a card has might boost it, but I dont see nvidias features realyl backing the 960 any way for your desire of rendering. Just go for which ever is cheaper in your retail, they are pratically shoulder to shoulder.
 
why do people keep saying the 380 smashes the 960? can someone show me a game where a 380 is faster by 10 fps than a 960? all the 960 needs is a 1300mhz to 1400mhz boost core then you can call it quits. with the 960 still pulling less power than a 380.

so this statement :

Agree also my 960 overclocks to 1405mhz automatically 1500mhz manually 😀
 


I wont say 380 highly jumps above 960. They're are in par with each other, OCing trials: it DOESNT matter if it that gpu can overclock the question is, will there even be a boost after OCing, in most cases no, u just see 5fps more in SOME games. Rendering you might get 2mins faster rendering time..... Do you need to be amazed by OCing if thats the result... No whats the big deal. If a card does not provide a real noticable boost whats the point of getting excited...?

Either 960 or 380 can be OC'd and have hardly no boost. That is why I said to Aditya_2 jsut pick which ever is cheaper between a 960 and r9 380. why...? because there is hardly much to say which is more outstanding.
 
I am clearing the fact that sometimes people bring up points in the amd vs nvidia that don't really have much effect. You have all these so called feautes, they make little to no difference. You can even find alternative softwares to help you with your GPU, e.g. for streaming u have OBS. Or for OCing you have softwares from other companies to OC your cpu/gpu. Therefore the whole "extra feature" makes a card better doesnt really push it that far up. I can buy a AMD card and download other softwares similar to what nvidia might have, same for nvidia cards, download softwares similar to what AMD cards have.

Its down to the fact now... What is worth putting money? in this case both CARDS clearly have nothing to really distinct each other meaning to give more boost. Their minor feautes do hardly anything and OCing is joke, no boosts really. Let me also mention the 2gb to 4gb is not all that of a boost, hardly much of a difference when facing 4gb vs 2gb vram. GO watch the vids, i guess in rendering it will be good for 4gb rather than 2gb. 2gb in gaming has not completely ran out of time yet.
 
physX adds extra bits I guess it looks nice but i dont think that will mean go for "that" gpu, as for mfaa I need to look into that more if it really helps make a difference. Phsyx can bring the FPS down im sure, especially with explosions having extra details.
 
Well I already explained extra feautures are not much but heck if those extra 5fps or so need few bucks then go ahead. But im once again saying the 960 and r9 380 are in PAR, go for whichever is cheaper.
 
I made my decision guys! thank you soo much for helping me out. I got The GTX 960 here are the reasons:

1. I know R9 280x is a much better performer gaming card but, this card really takes out twice as many watt as the GTX960.. plus, the temperature for this card is too hot for me, especially that i'm planning to render that would make my computer turn on more then 20 hours or maybe more . If i were to get the r9 280x that means i have to spend more money on upgrading my case and buying more fan. this is why I kicked out R9 280x from the list.

2. Now r9 380 vs GTX 960.. from what i learned from you guys, for gaming performance this card is identical, but for rendering i think the GTX 960 has more power to it because it has CUDA and it supports OctaneRender which is amazing!.. the down side is that for program like Adobe After Effect has bugs on the Maxwell .. but i did some research and found that there is a way to overcome it.

So yea.. based on that I choose the GTX 960

there you have it, the word "EXTRA", extra don't come for free in the world of computing. now if you'll argue the EXTRA details don't mean anything, might as well play every game in LOW DETAIL settings.
