Hi guys.

Recently updating my cpu for i7 5820K + Motherboard ASUS X99-A + 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz.

I'm using it for 3d rendering + hd video editing + casual gaming (3 games/year maximum) with an GPU PNY750Ti (2GB 128-Bit GDDR5).

Do you think it's fine for me?...or do you suggest upgrading to GTX 970 (4GB 256-Bit GDDR5)?.. It's really necesary?

Thanks for your answers.

PD: Excuse my poor english but isn't my native language.

SInce 3d rendering is your main use of the rig instad of gettin a 970 which is meant for gaming, I suggest you to get the Leadtek NVIDIA Quadro K6000 12 GB DDR5 as it is meant for rendering, can do light gaming too

That is an idiotic suggestion. Clearly he doesn't really want to upgrade if he can avoid it and you suggest a $7000 dollar workstation card?

I would leave it with the 750Ti and if you feel that you need more graphics horsepower for games you can upgrade. As gaming isn't the main focus of the system you should be fine with the 750Ti.

#1 He didnt mention any budget
#2 He has i7 5820K + Motherboard ASUS X99- so Im assuming he is willing to spend $

I used 3Dsmax (vray render motor) + adobe suite for design + aftereffects & premiere for video editing.

Or an GTX780 is a good choice? (more cuda cores than gtx970)?

Try googling leadtek nvidia quadro k series. Im not trolling around

There is VRay and there is VRay RT. They are different. RT is an IPR and it runs on the video card if you set it to CUDA. Do you use Vray RT or not? If you don't use RT and use only the VRay which runs on the CPU - then there is no need to upgrade the videocard.

You are allright. Vray RT i'm using it!

That's my doubt, if with my powerful CPU its enough or i must to upgrade my 750ti videocard. I'm looking for a GTX780 vs GTX970. But i'm undecided because:

GTX780: Kepler architecture (older) / DirectX11 (older) / CUDA cores: 2304 (more than GTX970 or GTX980) / 3gb / 384 bit interface (more than GTX970 or GTX980)

GTX 970: Maxwell architecture (newer) / DirectX12 (newer) / CUDA cores: 1664 (less than 780) / 4gb / 256 bit interface (less tan GTX780)

Can you guide me about? I'm so undecided and i'm not planning get sli!

Thanks again anyone!

I can not give you a descent benchmark between 980 and 770 in Vray RT.

Though GTX 970 is very close to 980. I would most likely go for 970.

This is a bench from the famous Construct short. You can check it out on youtube. It was made using Vray RT rather than regular Vray.

The 970 is under 2/3 of the price, while providing 80% of the performance. Performance / price wise 970 wins. But if you are rather dependent on VRay RT, I would just go for 980.
