I do not print directly to discs but one thing you could try is a
spray coating as I suggested to someone else. You can find it at any
store selling spray paints.

I use Krylon Preserve it on alot of my photos. It keeps you from
kringing when handing photos to kids.. It will at the least make it
fingerprint proof and easy to handle.

perhaps that may be all the protection you need. It wouldnt hurt to
try I suppose. For a general purpose spray, Hold the can about 10
inches away and spray with a farily rapid sweeping motion.

Apply several light layers instead of one heavy one if needed.
let dry a few seconds between layers. It may work out nicely

How do the colours look on the silver printable DVD-Rs?

Inkjet printers can only get the colours right if you print on white paper, so I
don't see how the colours could look right.

I'm sure that's true for shiny silver, but the matte silver Maxells I
bought work fine with my Epson R200 ink jet. I was a little
dissatisfied with my first effort since the result looked rather
"thin" (the design was somewhat washed out when I looked at it dead on
due to light reflection from the surface), but I found I had
overlooked a setting to correct that. Also, even the first one I
tried looked much better after I'd let it sit for a day — as Epson
suggests in the manual.

I can see a need for having printables with both types of surface,
depending on label design. The matte silver I bought are great when
I'm not using a background. But a white surface would clearly be
better if I wanted to use solid color or a design or picture as
background.

The matte silver does have some advantage here since it takes less ink
when there's no background printed. There's enough "personality" in
the matte silver surface to let it be the background. But the
starkness of a white surface would almost demand a printed background
of some sort.

I can answer that concerning the matte silver Maxell CD-Rs I bought.
There is a small white "Maxell" (about 10mm x 2mm) and an opposed "P"
(standing for "printable" I'm guessing) on the clear plastic inner
hub, along with the inevitable serial# or whatever that you'd need a
good magnifying glass to read. There's certainly nothing on any part
of the printable surface.

I make CDs for 3 working bands using 2 R300s,NO complaints regarding color
output on the TY silver or white with_Printable_Hubs. The bands actually
like the silver TYs better than the white TYs.MOF just bought 600 TY silver
and 200 TY white. With 2 new albums and reprints they'll be printed and sold
in a month by the bands. No I don't make any money these are my kids bands
mostly Rockabilly.

A white background would use more ink too. Correct?

Is it possible to print from any CD l;abeling software
to Epson R200 or we have to use what is supplied
by Epson?

Are there any printers other Epson capable of CD label printing?

I haven't tried it with my R200 yet, but Discus (a label design and
printing program) has entries for numerous disc printers (including the
R200) in its layout templates.

If you used a background, certainly.

SureThing Deluxe Edition's latest update (v.4.2.0146) supports direct
printing to CD/DVD, but that choice shows up only if there's a printer
connected that can handle direct-to-disk printing. I like it better
than the program Epson provides since SureThing is much more
versatile.

SureThing Deluxe Edition is $29.95. There is a free trial available.

There are some Canon models, but they don't seem to be sold in the US.

The last ones I bought from Newegg were about $35 for 100, shipping
included.
