[citation][nom]tiltowait[/nom][I'd like to see Gates donate more of his money towards birth control, condoms, abortions, etc. I'm not trying to make a political point, I'm just stating that the best way to help the human race is to try and stop population growth. Feeding / curing 8 billion people is just going to put further strain on our planet and our resources / food supply. I always tell people that it's better for the environment to live a life of excess than to have a child.]Actually there is truth in the long term benefit of the whole human race lies in controlled population growth. Currently most regions adopt the economic principle of free market which allows the market to dictate the prices of resources that in principle should see the most valuable resources being used for the most valuable purpose. However, human society has very short term goals which at the end causing the resources still being allocated for wasteful purpose. It is conceivable that all those key resources such as oil, uranium, rare metals etc which supports the existence of modern technology will all be spent on wasteful activities and eventually the human race might spend all of them, lost the grip on advanced technology, and end up being stuck on Earth, waiting for a meteor or other cosmic disaster to wipe us out. Resources is not sufficient because there are too many people need them. If there are less people, more resources are available for everyone and hence each will have a better quality of life. There should be an optimal number of people for current level of technology and resource availability. If we are able to reach out and colonize more planets and stars, then we will be able to support more people. Meanwhile, we should be careful of how much resources we want to spend to make current level of technology sustainable.Of course, this is a very radical idea and the world is not ready to accept that "you cannot have the number of kids you want to have". But in the more advanced countries, the population growth is usually either stagnant or going negative, so I supposedly in the subconscious, somehow many people already realize that it might be better to have less people.[/citation]

while i agree on some levels i look around and the people i see breeding are the exact people who should not be breeding. me ad my wife ultimatly decided to have kids due to good health backgrounds, and above average iq's and we figure we can raise kids that contribute to society. what I worry about in the USA right now is alot of my smart active and healthy friends are the ones saying they don't want kids and the ones i went to school with that are dumb as a brick and not working/ on ssi or public assistance are the ones having kids like it is their job to repopulate the earth, i would support limiting numbers of children a person can hav ebut not sure the usa is ready for that either

need more people like you man - it is true that the uneducated are more likely to have unsafe sex practices and hence more accidental pregnancies, unfortunately they are too stupid to realize the consequences of their actions. it's likely no-one in that bracket will read this post anyway, they don't read tech news, they read people magazine.
cheers.

The poor and uneducated have nothing, especially in the developing world. Nor do they have access to forms of birth control, obviously the only joy their gonna have is sex, this has been happening for eons.

Number of children are proportional to rights of women and being an urban dweller and inversely proportional to wealth, education and employment.

Hence, why in the developed world the average couple has way less children than the developing world.

Seems paradoxical, people in the developed world have 10-100 times the average income they are in a better position to raise more children than those in the developing world. Women's rights, lack of time do to working, etc actually have their numbers significantly less.

I can only tell the story from my side, by my wife and I choose not to have a child until we can afford it. Right now, we can't afford it - we both work full time just to get by week-to-week. It's all we can do to stay out of debt... having no free time has a lot to do with it too, I'm sure.

I don't see why this became a population issue. Anyway, I don't think people have the right to say who should have kids and who should not. If you believe in a free world don't think like that. I am not saying that you are wrong about over population. The solution I see would be education. Education=Jobs.

I'm always dispointed to see that my name isn't somewhere in the top 5 of most rich and powerfull. But when my new Doomsday device comes online the 21st this month everyone shall tremble when they hear my name. One day soon you'll all bow before me. Muwahahaha !!!

To the whole over population thing.

Agreed it needs to be cut down, and no worries it'll happen sooner then later. Maybe not in our life time but eventually.. By either warfare (nuke) or by disease (as much preservatives and chemicals we add to our processed foods) We as a human race will cut our population. Just takes one instance of the wrong kinda mojo 😉.

[citation][nom]joytech22[/nom]Funny how all of this money gets donated and a huge majority of the world is still in trouble.Seriously.. What did they do with the $28 billion? It's 28 freakin' Billion, that's enough for $4 per person on this planet.Imagine how much of that actually goes towards those in need.[/citation]

[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]save 8 billion people? wow... maybe he'll end world hunger, establish world peace, reach alpha centaury and eliminate lawyers...[/citation]

Alpha Centauri, not alpha centaury. IIRC, Proxima Centauri is closer to us than Alpha Centauri anyway. Also, I suggest that you look up strawman arguments.

"above average iq's(sic)," but unable to capitalize, punctuate or spell correctly? Which fraction of the population were you comparing to?
