So I've read about the benifits of gaming in 4k resolution on a 1080p screen, but can this also be done with the desktop resolution? I do a lot of music recording and programming and I thought that it would be neat if with the gtx 970 I could force my desktop resolution to 4k so I can see more on one screen.

Ah, you're talking about Dynamic Super Resolution! This is done by having the game run at higher resolutions, then have the GPU force it into your native resolution for better anti-aliasing!

I don't want to be a smartass, but wouldn't just decreasing the size of your windows have the same effect minus the really teeny icons 4K would cause? It's probably better for your eyes too lol, less squinting. I also don't think its possible on a 1080p monitor.
