Hello. I was reading about a new form factor called BTX. naturally it won't fit into the standard ATX case. What I am worried will we have to buy new cases and new everything after we spend hundreds of dollars on modified cases we allready purchased or built ourselves? or will the ATX be here for a long time along side of the new BTX ? please let me know I am looking at purchasing a Thermaltake and really can't see spending all that cash on a case that will be outdated soon. Thanks Tom.

The oldest ATX boards I've seen wer Marl form factor ATX boards (the ones with only one row of connections along the bottom) in an old AST 486 system! Now THAT'S old, I think Circa 1993.

Now the newest AT board I've owned was introduced in 1998. That's 5 years of overlap!

So ATX will probably stick around for a few years. And BTX might not! After all, NLX was based on ATX, and even though it was the "New Low-profile Extended" form factor, I saw risers with up to 7 slots on them (again in AST brand systems).

Thanks for your input. Yeah I hope the same thing. I remember those ASTs had the advantage. IN some ways I really miss that computer my first computer that accually did something like get online and stuff. I guess the reason why I am worried is now I am finally seeing cases and power supplies and mods that I really like. I can name hundreds of AT cases that I really like. One thing I miss is the hard drive cages in the rear with the removable plate so you can access them from the rear of the case. now everyone wants to insist on placing hard drives up front under the CD cages. Thanks Tom.
