I want to format my SSD because I was careless with my data and it has really slowed down but I'm afraid that if I do I wont be able to use my Windows 10 key to install windows again. Is there anyway I can tell windows that I want to deactivate the key and use it again?

Solution

Windows 10?
A full wipe and reinstall on the same drive, in the same system...has zero effect on your license key.

Start the install. When it asks for the license key, select "I don't have a product key" at the bottom of that window.
Continue on.
When the system goes online later, it will activate itself.

So completely wiping clean my SSD, no trace of anything at all, my key will just activate itself after I reinstall?

Exactly.
Where did this Win 10 license come from?

I got a usb and code from frys electronics

No problem then.
If it chokes on reactivation (and it shouldn't), you have the code to enter.

Depending on how old that USB is...you might want to create a new Win 10 install.
Here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

This will create a new USB install, with all the current updates. SO that you don't have to go through ALL the Win 10 updates that have been released since you got that USB from Frys.

What USAFRet stated should work.
In the event that you still have a problem, Microsoft is VERY good about re-activating your windows 10. I had that problem when My MB died and I replaced MB, CPU and RAM. I was able to boot My "OLD" SSD, BUT could not activate Windows (Digital Key and I did not have Key). Called MS and they Not Only activated my copy but also Upraded it from Home to Professional as I could not remember which version I had. ONLY problem was understanding the MS Tech (From India I'm guessing - LOLs).
