So I got a new 4TB hard drive. I hooked it up and managed to format part of it. It's only 2TB in size, and it will not let me format the other half. I have Windows 7. I read a little bit about having to use GPT rather than NTFS, but a do not have the option. I went into the boot menu and changed everything to UEFI that was previously on Legacy. Any ideas?

After that's sorted, how can I go about moving everything except for Windows onto the new drive? Including Steam games and other files.

Solution
GPT or MBR.
Not GPT or NTFS.

You wanted GPT. And yes, that option was in there somewhere.

You WILL need to redo it.
Delete ALL partitions on it and start over.

Ok, I misunderstood. I found the GPT option and got it formatted in one piece. Thanks!

Speaking of Windows 7 and GPT. So GPT should be set while installing the OS?
My Motherboard in Manual and BIOS says Legacy / UEFI, I'm assuming Legacy is MBR?

Thanks In Advance

Here we have an issue. I don't believe Win 7 can use a GPT drive as the boot drive.
A secondary drive, no problem.

Yes that is correct, the 4TB would be paired with another for a raid1.
I was wandering if the BIOS would need to be set to GPT as of installing of the OS or can that be set later for the raid1?

Thanks

Yes that is correct.
My BIOS has a choice win it comes to windows 7 64bit, It says in the manual Windows 7 Legacy/UEFI?
Don't know if I'm suppose to choose one or the other and or when?

As far Windows 8 - 10, auto UEFI.
I need to use 7 due to other factors.

Thanks

You apparently have a new 4TB disk partitioned in GPT .

Second, you appear to want to use the disk in a windows 7 machine.

From what you have said, the OS is the 64 bit version.

The disk may now be attached as a storage drive on a machine booting windows 7, either x86 or x64 version.

Windows 7 will not install on the disk unless windows 7 is the 64 bit version, the disk has a GPT style partition and you boot in UEFI mode.

Before you install windows, remove any other disk from the system and set the mainboard to use UEFI.

Away you go.

You apparently have a new 4TB disk partitioned in GPT . (Not at this time.)

Second, you appear to want to use the disk in a windows 7 machine. (Yes but as storage)

From what you have said, the OS is the 64 bit version. (Yes)

The disk may now be attached as a storage drive on a machine booting windows 7, either x86 or x64 version. (Okay)

Windows 7 will not install on the disk unless windows 7 is the 64 bit version, the disk has a GPT style partition and you boot in UEFI mode. (Understood)

Before you install windows, remove any other disk from the system and set the mainboard to use UEFI. (Will Do)

Away you go. (I hope so)
