I used a Fractal design XL V3, as i had 14 HDD's and optical and SSD's . I have an i7-2600K that runs into clock problems - not thermal at 4.9-5.0GHz, so it sits at 4.8GHz - it uses an H100 custom mounted outside the case in a horizontal position above the case on custom machined mounts. It also runs 4 fans in push-pull as for speed control they are mother board controlled - pwm so vary as needed. flat out prime95 or similar runs to about 72 C. minimum temp i've seen is 7 C - actually below room temp ! (18 C) i don't think my priorities match most others - flat out ah heck the noise ! - who wants a quiet V8 ?

That's because you're getting a false reading. Think about it. Apply physics, or at least 7th grade earth science. It can't possibly be below room temperature unless you're using some kind of chiller (a TEC, refrigeration mechanism, etc).

We review a lot of coolers and see lots of reports from reader about our "bogus" numbers. But the people who make these bold statements often don't understand the basic science that says that their own numbers are counter-factual.

+1 well said. :)
