Foxconn is not doing itself any favors when it comes to public relations.
It's almost like they are treating this as some sort of sick joke with everything the have done ever since the suicide issues got the attention of the press. Everything from Exorcists to giving large raises only to tell their the employees "just kidding all 800,000 of you are fired"

It's like a cruel game they play with these peoples lives...

falchard: Our monetary policy had been going down hill ever since the creation of the Federal reserve, some of the supposed "decline in industry" is attributable to the bubbles the Fed generates, however, our industry and our economy were pretty sound until Regan:

1. Ran against Carter on a platform of bashing Carter's 30billion dollar deficit
2. Immediately gave the rich back all of their tax money, ballooning the deficit to 500 billion(which he said "didn't matter because the economy is good")
3. De-regulated business everywhere (especially oil).
4. Began some of the initial free/semi-free trade with 3rd world countries, which hit flood stage when Clinton signed NAFTA(Bush II expanded this further)

To finish off the economy, our rethuglican congress-critters de-regulated banking by repealing Glass-Steagall. Glass-Steagall was passed by Congress after the great depression, it was based on an analysis of the banking practices that CAUSED the Great Depression. A normal person might think twice about opening Pandoras Box, but not republicans hell-bent on a a de-regulation agenda.

Anyways, any redneck who is against regulation as much as they claim to be, should just move to China. Lots of jobs, no regulation... Let me know how that works out for ya...

I'm not really sure where you get this idea that China has no regulation. Perhaps a little research is in order before you start to stuff your ideology down other's throats. China is a fully regulated economy that suupports everything from fair labor practices to patent and copyright protection.

It should also be noted that China has had the fastest growing GDP for the past 30 years and has gone from being a faint echo to a powerhouse in international economics. This is all while China has intentionally devalued the yuan.

Your entire post is nothing more than an anti-capitalism rant. While you're researching China why don't you try to understand what exactly changed in their policy that allowed them to become the giant they are today.

If they can't solved that on that country why create another problem to the other country - We do have different cultures and It needs to be considered.

a4mula: Whatever you're smoking, you need to either stop smoking it or start sharing it with the rest of us.

China is a fascist tumor on the continent of Asia, businesses are allowed to destroy the environment as much as they want, and they are allowed to exploit workers as much as they want. Regulation would mean not letting them poison their own land, water and air, and ensuring that Chinese citizens have a decent standard of living, and basic freedom.

Step 5: Operating costs go up 25%.

Step 6: Company loses all product margin.

Step 7: Company fires all employess, exuctives collect 500M$ bonus, company files bankruptacy.

Step 8: Workers that are fired lose all income/

Step 9: Fired wokers starve to death, as do hier families having lost all sources of Income.
!
Problem solved! No more workers to commit suicide!

The problem here is not that Foxconn executives are stupid, it's that they care more about thier bonus than the lives of thier employees.

It's amazing this is even happening in China, arn't they suspossed to be commies?

[citation][nom]joytech22[/nom]But will the workers in Taiwan be treated the same? hopefully foxconn learn something from this and actually allow workers to go home at night![/citation]

Unlike China, Taiwan has a pretty stringent set of labor laws, but the truth is, back in Taiwan, people in the technology industry still work like slaves, and are under enormous production pressure, the only difference is, they actually get paid pretty decent- at least for just-out-of-college workers.

[citation][nom]figgus[/nom]Democrats, pay attention!!! This is what happens when you meddle with the market. It's happened in the US, now it is happening in China. When are you going to finally "get it"?Companies value shop just like individuals do. We don't want to pay extra for finished goods, and they don't want to pay extra for labor. If Apple started charging $14000 for an iPhone, Motorola would start killing them in sales. When a product is too expensive, it prices itself out of the market... and the same exact rules apply to labor. If you overcharge your customers, they shop elsewhere. Period.I'm sure the 8000 FoxConn workers will be ecstatic to be huddled in a ricefield again hoping to grow enough to eat and maybe a little bit to sell. If that option was so great, they wouldn't have started working at FoxConn to begin with.[/citation]

What an idiotic statement. So you want people to be abused, worked long hours with little pay so that you can get your toys cheap? Seriously, what an idiotic statement.

actually, I 'm not suprised, they have the tech they stole from the other MFG's, now BYD will take over the whole operation and iron hand the employees, they'll have cheap labor again, the tech, and the facilities, Foxcon loses and China wins, not suprised at all

So if they move to taiwan, does this mean that taiwanese will be committing suicide as well?

[citation][nom]thrust2night[/nom]Great. Now we'll have people from other companies commit suicides. Don't fix the problems Foxconn, just run away from it and subject other people to it and leave the existing 800,000 people to fend for themselves. The Chinese government should do something good and stop them from leaving and fix the problems.[/citation]
Chinese government? CARE for citizens? Don't make me laugh

[citation][nom]aeurix[/nom]I'm sure the 800,000 have a big thank you gesture for those who railed the company now... sometimes bad work is better than no work.[/citation]

Are you from the USSR? good argument commissar.

[citation][nom]Geeeez[/nom]Globalized capitalism is such a wonderful thing... First the western workers deal with jobs moving to China and now the jobs get shuffled around Asia looking for the most exploitable population. Eventually Sub-Sahara Africa will be the most lucrative place for manufacturing to go![/citation]

No, the most lucrative place for manufacturing will soon be the North-American continent.

You must be an American.

I don't see how it is any cheaper to manufacture in Taiwan, as Taiwan has a high standard of living and is considered one of the richest countries in Asia. It's one of the four "tiger" economies. What's funny is that Foxconn is Taiwanese company. Vietnam makes sense for "cheap labor," but I don't know about Taiwan.

Frankly, I'd rather buy stuff made in Taiwan, it's one stage ahead of China in quality control. And as for design.....

I can't believe some of the rubbish still coming out of China -- even simple things like toasters which don't function well and are unreliable.

For example I happily owned a Spanish made Philips toaster for 8 years -- I replaced it with a Chinese made one which lasted 4 months, and then another and another, and another.

The final replacement lasted a lot longer but it still made terrible toast.

Okay the Chinese toaster cost half what the Spanish one had cost almost a decade earlier but these people have sacrificed a generation of young workers and much of their environment to producing this stuff.

In china, chinese lives are worthless (hey, they are commu anyway, what did you expect?). I have relatives there so i know it.

anyone who got "special status" work above the law till some extend. like foxxcon!

I have a jap made dvd writer and it lasted 3+ years and still kicking. already burned 1000+ discs and all still in good quality.

Then later i got a china made one, mainly as a reader and hardly burn anything but reads a lot. This drive only lasts 1 year plus a bit then starting to make problem (from reading and writing) and 50% of the disc burned with it 1 year ago are unreadable! (while jap made drive burned disc still last for 3+ year and still kicking with low PIE and PIF rate with high speed reading.)
