I was playing medal of honor multiplayer and my FPS dropped to 30fps for no entire reason. Just started a game and it dropped all the way down there. I have two 780tis with a 4960x processor so obv. this should never happen. Both clocks were stuck at 679mhz when this FPS issue was going on. I hit the windows key and returned to the game and they were back up to 1124mhz, and fps was back to normal. I have 780ti SC EVGA reference. this same thing happens when playing bf4. Its completely random. Also, i have seen my fps dip from 200 on medal of honor and it shoots all the way down to 100fps sometimes when nothing is going on, or just because it wants to. i know 100fps is still not bad at all, but theres no reason for it to drop 100fps for no reason. Could this be a motherboard issue with the SLI configuration? I tried changing out ram but that didnt help.

asrock extreme9 x79 mobo, 1500w psu EVGA supernova, 4x4 dominator platinum 16gb 2133mhz

yes

hey. i dont know why i didnt try this before. i have another rig downstairs that has a sabertooth z77 2133mhz ripjawsz 4x4, 1200w psu, 3770k processor. So I installed the GPU on that one, and I got the same results as i did with my other rig. my fps dropped to 50 and hovered around 50-80fps until i hit the windows key again. I was using the 337.88 driver for all my attempts with both computers because i could have swore that the newest nvidia driver was still giving me the problem, so I concluded that the drivers were not the issue. I installed the newest driver again just to test one more time, and im still testing, but i doubt the driver will fix it. So it may be after all of this crap i tried, a BAD gpu in the end.............only way to see is to buy another one and test it. Again, this has happened in thief, bf4, and medal of honor, so this issue is not the just solely medal of honors fault. i have seen it multiple times. So this rig is completely DIFFERENT, and I can conclude if I am getting the same issues i was before on the other rig that its solely a GPU related issue.

Ok, that sucks. Its good that you thought of the other rig and to test the gpu. Make sure to test both GPU's

alright, even with the NEW drivers, 340.something, I still got the issue!!! stuck at the same fps until I hit the windows key. so its gotta be this GPU. thank goodness.I'll still have to test out the new GPU jus tbe safe, but this HAS to be the issue. I really hope its not the game, even tough I saw it in two other games when i had both gpus active. this was all done on the 3770k system, not my main rig.

I actually returned the other GPu thinking that was the problem. So it doesn tmatter now. its this damn single GPU for sure.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i just bought a new GPU right now to test, and it still occurs with Medal of Honor. Im back on my main rig with drivers up to date and everything. i dont know what else to do, but to conclude the game is FAULTY. Do you agree?

Have you tested it with other games? is it in sli or is the new gpu the only one?

Well i am playing bf4 and havent seen anything crazy yet. No, i only Have the new gpu installed. So i either have to go way back to 331 drivers or just man up amd wait for a newer driver (assumig its driver related). ill still test bf4 more, but its weird it would happen on both systems. Ive only tested new gpu on main rig. Not sure if i should test,it on the other cuz im ot sure it would a difference now.

If it only happens in medal of honor then its probably driver related. If it happens with the new GPU then its probably mobo. if it happens only in sli then it's drivers or the other (not new) GPU. The best case scenario is driver problems because you can and should just wait for the next driver release. if your feeling lucky you can always try the beta driver. I wouldn't recommend beta driver for sli though since sli already has problems.

Well i still cant imagine if its the mobo because it happened with the other mobo (sabertooth) with the same GPU. The new one acted up right when i started the game with my main mobo (asrock). This is the strangest thing

I was playing bf4 for a little and I didnt see anything yet on the new GPU. But now, i put the new GPU in the other computer we have (z77 sabertooth) and seeing the if the problem occurs again. it typically happens when I join a game, or when the next game starts in medal of honor. In bf4 it happens randomly, but ive only noticed it on a few maps so far with the old GPU. if the problem occurs right now again with thi new GPU on the sabertooth, I have to deduce its a driver issue or the games software sucks, or something other than a hardware issue. Oh, I forgot to mention what you asked moousemonkey. Yes, with the old gpu's I had the fps thing happened in Thief as well. so medal of honor, thief, and bf4. Seems as if medal of honor REALLY triggers it, thats why I play it so much right now. But yeah, i'll still be testing bf4 after I test MOH on this comp.

but like i sid if it still persists even on a different comp with a new GPU, then yeah its gotta be something else.

download the latest msi afterburner and load it up on screen. you can go into the options and unlock voltage monitoring if you want. let it run in the background while you play a few games or until your "issue" occurs. then look at the hardware monitor and look at the power %, temp, core clock, voltage, and temp limit. if your card is throttling for some reason... your "core clock" in the graph will have jaggy lines. it might bounce up and down a 60mhz or so difference as it is it is going from p0 base clocks to p0 boost clocks... but it shouldn't have a jaggy lines. when you close a game and on desktop it should be reporting some really low clock like 300mhz as it goes into.

if it is throttling... then you are likely hitting the temp limit or the voltage limit... and those graphs will reflect it by showing th readings... or very unlikely hitting the power % limit.

well i just got done trying the new GPU on the my other rig (z77 sabertooth) and the same issue occurred. went down to 40fps when starting a game, then it got stuck at 50-70, so i hit the ctrl+alt delete, and it shot back up to normal fps which is 150-200fps. So both PC's with BOTH GPU's (new and old) are still acting the same way for medal of honor. I cant imagine the new card already having voltage and power issues, especially with both PC's. So im going to go to back to my main rig (asrock extreme9) and try out bf4 again for a while and see what happens. this not making any sense so far lol. So im not really worried about components anymore. I'll just wait until the next driver.

i mentioned in the first post that my mhz got stuck at 679mhz, that was in SLI mode with the old GPU's. i havent checked the core clock with the new one, so i will, but i still cant imagine that being the issue with BOTH PC's and since this card I am using now is new. But hitting the windows key or ctrl+alt delete and clicking back into the game seems to cure it every time with the new and old gpu.

EDIT: Alright, so my dad is using a 570 PNY gpu. I tried that card out just to see whats up. that card handled medal of honor real well, easy over 90fps a majority of the time at advanced. the issue happened AGAIN. this is with the sabertooth z77 computer. So yeah, it aint my gpu's unless my dads gpu failing as well. i got stuck at 50fps until i hit ctrl+alt delete. So yeah this definitely means something is up with the game. So, again, im going to try bf4 again with the new gpu, but if it happens again theres nothing left to do but to blame drivers. i have tried 337.50, 33.788, and 340.52 remember, and they still have not worked. I have been using 340.52 recently since there were no difference with the other two.

Yeah sounds like a driver issue. Also, try updating windows to see if that does anything.

Nikoli, i have ran ddu at least three times already and nothing worked. I will do it again just to see but i doubt it will work. I didnt run it on the sabertooth computer though because it never made the issue better with my main rig.

i was looking at core clocks and memory clocks. I was playing cs source and I noticed they were going up and down a lot. like 980 to 624mhz for core clock, and 3499 to like 2000mhz for memory clock, and I noticed my fps droppping because of that. is the sli not being fed right through the mobo? I know clocks go up down normally, but it really does seem to affect the game. Maybe its going too low?

did you confirm that "both" cards are doing this? are both cards evga reference 780s? i could see in sli how if one card is somehow throttling itself either due to a bad temp sensor or a bad bios, it will gimp the other card along with it. but both cards doing the same thing, dropping back to 625mhz(whatever it is), thats just strange. the 625mhz clock is like a p2 power state and 300mhz a p3.

since they are evga cards... you can flash the bios if you want and you wont void your warranty. i would say go get a skynet bios that will disable that boost crap altogether and when under load will lock in the highest possible p state.

there is a ton of information on that first page... but if you scan through the thread you will find team skynet members that you can pm and ask about how to find which card you actually have and which bios you should use. occamsrazor helped me a bunch with my 780 classified. also they will all have much more knowledge about your video cards since you have pretty much narrowed your problem down to the video card/s.
