Just build a new system withe 8700k @ 5ghz and gtx 1080 ti.

Tried overclocking my GPU and the card looks stable at +160 core and +400 memory.

However, when I try to run the Total War Warhammer benchmark the benchmark would start at around 100+ FPS then towards the end drop to 30-50 FPS for some reason.

This is really weird as on MSI afterburner and the OSD riverrun tool it shows my core speed still runs at 2000+mhz and memory is still at 5900mhz. After this happens once, I tried to run userbench and its GPU test and my FPS drops from 500 to just over 100!! This huge lag in performance won't be fixed until I restart my PC again.

Please help, I don't know why my FPS would get destroyed without anything showing core or mhz speed drops. This is very weird as at stock speeds without the OC, the Warhammer benchmark runs fine without major FPS drop.

Solution
In your case the drop in performance and a required reboot to fix the problem most likely indicates:
1.) Overclock is unstable [too high]
2.) Software or a software bug that is subject to hardware timing and other fluctuations but to OC.

There could be other issues, such as the power supply incapable of proper functioning due to weak or faulty construction. The issue could be complex. If I could get my hands on your computer this can be resolved, however, in this case we are doing it at a distance which can be time consuming. So, please be patient until the issue is resolved and let us know if the problem persists or is fixed so others with the same issue can be helped.

Uhh, benchmarks aren't good for measuring consistent performance like that, as they stress the system a bit unfairly.
Do FPS drops happen during normal gameplay?
Also problems like this could still be the result of an unstable overclock, as it runs fine at stock speeds.

Hadn't noticed it if I just play normal games with the overclock.

I understand that an unstable overclock would cause drops in core or memory speed or crashes. But the weird thing is I get no drops in speed just my FPS gets halved!

Also, this problem can't be solved until I restart my PC completely. If I run that benchmark again again it'll just happen again

I'm just worried about this card because I never had an issue like this. My old GTX 1080 ran the benchmark just fine over and over again.

I don't understand why performance would be cut without any drops in core or memory speed. No throttling either.

What is the temperature of the CPU and GPU when running benchmarks, and voltage while in the Windows OS?
[Download and use HWiNFO64, the 64 bit version if your copy of Windows is 64 bit http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/hwinfo64-download.html ]

What software are you using to overclock your GPU?

Does this problem happen only when the GPU is overclocked?

What is the name brand, wattage and is it 80 Plus Certified?
