It really depends on the game some games that use just 1 or 2 cores peformes a little better 10 fps or so but normal games like bf 4 and 3 and other new games the difference is not that big i say stick with the fx-8350 and get a better gpu if you really want more fps.

I myself have a 7970 gigabyte 1ghz edition and i had an fx-8350 too and did upgrade to an i7-6700k like 1 month ago.

And the difference in games is not that big atleast the games i play, the lower frame drops are much better on the i7 and it and the frames are more stable other then that...

If you get 60+ fps in most games as you should just stick with it overclock the cpu for more peformance if you have a good cooler. and use the money for a 390x or fury or a nvida card.

In a nutshell, might be worth it, might be not. If you can get *both* the i5 6600k and the R9 390 that would be ideal, but I wouldn't sacrifice the R9 390 in favor of the CPU upgrade. The i5 6600k wouldn't be worth it so much for the benefit you'd get right now but rather because you'd be set for many years if you got one.
