Hi, this is a long one...

I just recently got a BenQ XL2720Z Monitor,https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-XL2720Z-Gaming-Monitor-Resolution/dp/B00GWFNMJS

That is 144hz. I connected my laptop to it which is a very good laptop. http://www.reflexnotebook.ca/newreleases/sager-np8157.html

So I have my laptop on the side plugged into the monitor, It 'works'...

My laptop is 120hz and monitor 144hz yet the monitor it self when gaming on games that run buttery smooth on laptop, has issues. In the nVidia control panel it shows that I am running it at 60hz, and I can't change it above that.

Another issue I have been having is that both screens state they are 1920x1080 native resolution. And I know for a fact my laptop is, yet it seems that the monitor isn't as when going into full screen games there is around 5-10 seconds of black screen, then flickering and if i am lucky i will actually get in the game. now, however, a lot of the time it will go back to the desktop in a reverse pattern of flickering, black screen. What I am assuming is that it's trying to adjust to the correct resolution. Both screens and all games I run have the correct resolution settings in them. When I magically do get into the game and start a match, doing a keystroke or click instantly brings it back to the desktop, flickering, and then black screen. this is a very annoying bug and is a top priority for me to get fixed as gaming is what i mainly do and this puts a big stop to that.

thanks.

Which video cable are you using? Mini Displayport to Displayport?

Some monitors allow higher refresh rates over hdmi but not sure if this monitor does though. Displayport is the way to go.

But. If you are using a Displayport cable this might interest you.

Check monitor's firmware, should be in the monitor menus somewhere. Hoping updating firmware isnt necessary seeing that thread being almost 3years old - hoping newer monitor stock has had firmware updated, fingers crossed.

Displayport to Dual link DVI could be an option if Displayport on the monitor is the problem.
