fragile cpu's

I am planning on building some new computers after the new year. I have heard that the socket A processors are easily damaged. Is there any website that gives some good instructions on installing these processors?

Can't name any web-sites off the top of my head, but I can give you a few tips from my own experience. Installing the CPU is as easy as any other, pull the lever back on the socket to open it up. Place the chip all the way into the socket (making sure your pins line up) and push the lever back down. Now the hard part: make sure the fan is intended for a T-Bird or a Duron (Socket A processors). Make sure it is not a Golden Orb (Chrome Orb is ok). Gently place the heatsink/fan combo's lever on the one hook (there are hooks on both sides of the socket for the heatsink to clip onto) closest to the hinge of the socket's lever. Line up the heatsink perfectly. Now take the little binder on the heatsink (the metal strip) and guide it over to the hook on the otherside. It may take some force, so just be careful and firm. :) Then pray! Really though, I didn't have any problems with installing mine. If your heatsink is designed for an Athlon T-bird or Duron, it should install just fine. That's the most important part.

Intel's CPU will just as easily be damanged like AMD's, they have no difference because both are based on FC-PGA where the die is completely exposed.

True. They are both just as easy to damage.

But the heat sink mounting ISN'T the same. So you have to be more careful with the AMD socket heat sinks.

It doesn't mean either is better than the other. Just that you have to be more careful and make sure you have the right HS.
