Hi Experts,

I purchased a new Graphics card based on my budget and suggestions from experts. The Graphics card that I purchased is Asus Geforce GTX960 2GB DDR5 Nvdia PCI E Graphic Card (STRIX-GTX960-DC2OC-2GD5).Below is my current system configuration.

  • Asus Z170 Pro Gaming 64 GB motherboard
    Intel i5 6600K 3.5 GHz
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 X
    G.Skill Ripjaws 2133 MHz 8 GB Ram (15-15-15-35)
Corsair RM550 80 Plus Gold certified PSU(Fully Modular)
Corsair Carbide series 300R Windowed Compact Gaming Case
    BenQ RL 2455HM Gaming Monitor

Now while playing Dota 2 I am having below concerns :-

When Playing Dota 2 for 3-4 hours the graphics card works fine with no issues being observed.
However when I extend my playing time to over 4 hours the graphics card starts making some noise and the frame rate drops to 30-40 and stays there.
I checked the temperature then and the reading was about 45 degree Celsius which I think is absolutely fine.
The processor temp was about 40 degree Celsius.
If I restart my system the problem does not go away
If I shutdown the system for about an hour and check it starts working fine again.
From these observations I conclude that there is no issue with drivers since it works great in the beginning and there is no heating problem for my Graphics card.

Can anyone suggest me what should I do now ?
Is this a normal behavior or should I do something to make this not happen again. Please suggest me.

Solution
Looks fine to me, temp to as my 970 can hit 60 sometimes if its been pushed hard.

Runs a few games and see what happens. Try and play the best optimised ones.

Can you try recreating the issue in someother game? I too have a lot of problems in dota 2, most of them being dota just neglecting my overclocks whilst the other games work fine. Also, try setting launch options to -dx9

I already said that the Graphics Card temp was about 45 °C.Mobo was at about 40 °C

I will have to buy a different game to test that.I was already planning for Batman Arkham Asylum.
Optimum settings were applied through GeForce Experience.I am not sure why a different game should be of any concern. But anyway I will give it a try. Will also try launching the game in Directx 9 and let you know the results. Thanks for your suggestion.

I would stick away from Nvidia Experience, for me it has just caused BSOD when I would install a driver then after 20 seconds the pc restarts with new driver, I didn't feel safe about this so now I just install via the official NVidia site and i have had no problems.

Also Nvdia Experience just settings all settings to max depending on which card you have just because its been told that apparently is 'optimal' (I have a MSI GTX 970 4GB).

Nvidia Experience only measures your GPU not your CPU (I have a i5 4460) so it would still throw all the physics based settings on max even though that is the setting the CPU will be handling (such as dust in the wind and dead bodies as such). For example for Killing floor 2 it but PhysX's on extra gibs and reflect world on with everything else on ultra, the reflect work and extra gibs killed my fps and I turned them off.

Do you have any old GPU's you can test just so we can be certain its the new GPU that's the problem. Also what driver do you have?

Regards

It's a newly built system.I didn't had anything to work on before. The Nvidia driver version was 361.43 WHQL.
I called the showroom later this afternoon. They asked me to install the drivers from Asus product support page.
The driver listed in the product support page is nVIDIA Display Driver 353.62WHQL
After that I did a custom install of graphics driver without 3D Drivers and Nvidia Experience. Also downloaded GPU tweak from the same site.
Now these are the below readings which I got from the Graphics Card while playing Dota2 for about two hours(will have to play more to actually see if it's working out)
GPU Temp. :-0066(Max) - 0036(Min)
GPU Usage % :-0098(Max) - 0000(Min)
Memory Usage(MB) :-1217(Max) - 0148(Min)
GPU clock(MHz) :-1393(Max) - 0135(Min)
Memory Clock(MHz) :-7220(Max) - 0810(Min)
GPU Fan Speed(RPM) :-1464(Max) - 0000(Min)
GPU Voltage(mV) :-1200(Max) - 0850(Min)
Power Target(%) :-0087(Max) - 0007(Min)

Are these readings safe ?I mean to say that Is the Graphics card functioning as it should ?
I didn't see the same frame drop as seen earlier. However as suggested I will try these with another game to see if it's really resolved. Will keep you posted.Any suggestions please feel free to post.

Definitely this is going to take a longer time.Cannot decide by just one occurrence of that absurd event. Will close this thread as of now.If any issue happens in near future will post it back.
