[citation][nom]Hope Slayer[/nom]Misunderstanding....it's for those who buy the game new, not just on release day.[/citation]

Precisely. Forza III did something similar. Each copy comes packed in with a card you can redeem for several cars. As it can obviously only be redeemed once, anyone who buys the game used would have to pay for the content to receive it.

I actually LIKE this system. It encourages buying games new, instead of spending $5 less for a used copy and generating zero revenue for those that made the game, only for the store where it was purchased.

I will almost always buy new, typically only going used if it's the only one available, which can be the case with older games. I'd much rather the developers and publishers get their share than put a large wad of cash in the pockets of the retailers.

My point is not to complain about free DLC (something I think most DLC should be since most of the time it was planned out from the beginning and could have been included). I am complaining about the ridiculous DLC bonanza going on now. I don't understand the point of releasing DLC on release day. You may say "well they wanted it in the original but they ran out of time". But by planning and working on the DLC they are probably still slowing down the development of the game.

If it is legit DLC then I am happy. Fallout 3 was already a long game. The DLC (especially Broken Steel) added to the game. But even in Fallout 3, all the DLC cost $50 (unless you bought the Game of the Year edition)...the price of the game brand new! And don't get me started on $15 DLC for console games that add a few skins and multiplayer maps....

not a good marketing plan, they should wait on the first day sales then implement the DLC shortly after to boost sales, its almost like the DLC was late content that they couldnt add on to the "final" product before launch...

[citation][nom]thegreathuntingdolphin[/nom]Wait...they are releasing DLC when the game launches? Why didn't they just incorporate it into the game then! Geez game developers are getting lazy and greedy.[/citation]
Pirates.
Easy enough to steal the game, but adding DLC packs may be too muhc effort for some people. (Especially those on platforms who used a hacked Xbox.)

Yes, a good DLC is nice. I played a couple of the DLC pakcs (aliens, anchorage, slavers), and they were fun as hell. I plan to play broken steel when I finally get my EyeInifinity setup running. =D

As long as a DLC is more than some crappy addon, and is legitimtate gameplay enhancement, then paying even $15 is worth it to me.

[citation][nom]bananarama443[/nom]And didn't you notice .. this only applies to those who BUY THE GAME ON RELEASE DAY. Anyone who buys later, will have to pay for the DLC.[/citation]

I hope it is not the case.
I have pre-ordered the game but I am not sure to receive it on launch day.
It would be very frustrating if the DLC are free for only one day :-(

I will say this once again....

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GET THE GAME ON RELEASE DAY. THE "DAY 1" DLC IS FREE FOR PEOPLE WHO PURCHASE THE GAME NEW.
Now I'm yelling on the internet.

Seriously people...it's just a game, but if you've pre-ordered a game does that not mean that you haven't visist a few forums or the games own website even and gathered a bit of info BEFORE you pre-ordered?

DLC is like being dissed and the next day coming up with a comeback.

In other terms it is the devs saying "we don't have enough content for a sequel, but.... rather than waiting and coming up with good ideas for that lets give you a weak 'addon' and see how much we can charge for it".

Finish the game late, I don't care, but when I purchase a console game (heck even a PC game) I want that purchase final. If I wanted to pay for more content I would play an MMO, they can drag a lack of story out for years... (heck look at Wow, the story "ran out" years ago yet magically they keep making more).

probably because they are already printing the discs.

Plus marketing, it keeps things exciting, gets people talking. People are more likely to buy the game if they know there's going to be free goodies than if the goodies are already there.

get it?

Total BS. This DLC should be in the game. Bioware is becomming a money troll since EA took them over, imagine that.
I am not buying this on day one to get DLC, hear me EA, F you. The servers will probably jam up anyway. This is a game that will have to wait until a game of the year version comes out. Only a few more months anyway until FF XIII comes out, that will keep me busy for many hours. Square Enix does not do this milk you after wards for as much as possible like EA loves to do.

I, for one, salute Bioware for rewarding early adopters -- the one group of people who ALWAYS get the shaft. This sales ploy will make me certain to purchase the game on day one.

Dont like it, dont buy it.
Moaning on a forum solves nothing, exercise your prerogative and dont give them your cash if you feel that strongly about it.
Personally I am going to leave it for a while, I have about a dozen games that I still haven't played yet and I can see ME2 sucking several months out of my life.

You know, your all missing the point.

The trick here is that by releasing a FREE DLC on launch day, which will obviously be available after the first day, they assure themselves the game won't be pirated as much. Bioware only protect their assets, you want a pirated game, you won't have the total package. That's only a maneuver to counter piracy.

That's why they release the game with free DLC, they can "control" how much can be pirated while giving you the illusion you get more for less.

Think again. They've done it quite a few times with just their arcade releases (0 Day Attack on Earth came out just a few weeks ago and already has DLC and was made by Square Enix). You just wait, Square will end up announcing DLC for FXIII at some point in time.

Do your self a favor....comprehend what information has been given to you by myself and several other posters in regards to "Day 1" and then go to a mirrow and repeat "F you".

I can't repeat enough to people that this is not a money ploy, it simply is content that didn't make it into the final "gold" disk that will be inside the retail box. "Day 1" content will be free to people who purchase the game new...not just on release day, how hard is it to understand that? Why is Bioware the badguy for giving people who buy a new copy (not used) bonus content that Bioware could have said to hell with and never released. Bioware has kicked itself in the ass publically for how they weren't able to follow up on Mass Effect one bonus content they way they had hoped. Yes they are planning paid stuff but from what Bioware has stated it will be to add full expansion type content, they still plan on releaseing free stuff untill ME3 is released.

If you want to be angry at someone go after the retailers that have promoted their own "Bonus content" in hopes to get you to pre-order it and then suddenly "running out" of a certain edition of the game.

why is it so hard for ppl to see they did this to discourage ppl from buying used copies. Bioware make $0 when ppl buy their game used from places like EB. They did the same thing with Gears Of War 2 with "classic map pack" when u bought the game new...nobody complained about it then... ok can everyone stop bitching now?

F u Bioware. I'm not buying DA:O and I'm not buying ME2 because of your shenanigans. Just make me a game and sell it and I'll buy it. Getting cute with all these DLCs and pre-order content and what not just pisses me off. I like straight-shooters. I don't like to be manipulated.

Wow! You do not need to yell like that!

Concerning forums and web sites, I have probably spent far too much time
reading various international Bioware/EA/shops websites/forums, writing in them and even sending email to EA support, Game.co.uk support, Game.fr support and others shops.

Nobody said/answered the same thing about the content of the Collector's edition of this game (original soundtrack, cerberus network acces card), the in game pre-order bonuses or even the tin/plastic case.
And it is still not clear what people who pre-order will receive depending on their location and the shop where they pre-ordered.

It is just a game but it is not free for those who do not pirate it.

So I think you can keep for you the kind of comments you made.

Apart from that I like Bioware games(minus the bugs in them) and I love free DLC ;-)

"with team fortress two, or half life, or most pc games, it's called a PATCH with these new console first games, its called a paid DLC, gooooo piracy."

Realize however with team fortress 2 the majority of their 'Patch' are new achievements or re-skinned weapons with different stat modifiers. This in comparison with creating entire new areas to explore with new dialogue and encounters is far more taxing than what TF2 does. As for Half-Life, those aren't patches at all, they are expansions, you pay for them.
