freeagent desktop not detected

My Free Agent desktop (500 Mb) has suddenly stopped working. It is not recognized on my iMac (OS 10.9.5). I can get it to back up once by unplugging the power source and replugging the unit, but it then stops working.

First, get all the data off ASAP.

Next, look at the SMART Data for the drive to see if this in an impending failure.

Some of these drives that are USB powered do not get enough power on some of the notebook USB ports. You can look for a cable that connects to two USB ports, or try a powered hub to improve this.
