Freelance WordPress Maitenance

Hello all,
A co-worker of mine recently asked me if I would be interested in maintaining a WordPress-built website for his client. I have not seen the website yet, but I think it will be mid size (10-15 pages).

The type of services I would provide are copy, image and other minor changes; basically this is minor coding and uploading changes via SFTP. Also updating plugins I suppose.


In terms of pricing, I've read that charging monthly fee is better than per hour/ Thoughts? What would you charge per month or per hour for these services? Also, what type of time should I sign up for? I have free time in the week (especially weekends), but I also want time for a life (this is a side job as I have a full time job). I think 3-5 hours a week seems reasonable.

Also on time, what type of relationship (i.e. workflow) do you usually have in this type of freelance work? Are the hours predefined (i.e. for 2 hours on Monday from 3-5, I can do maintenance. only contact me or schedule work doing those hours), or is it just "you have me for 5 hours per week, let me know what needs to be updated and I will address it in a timely fashion"?

Thanks for the input! Besides adding alt tags to images (which I do out of habit), I wouldn't be doing anything SEO. This is almost exclusively changing text and images on the website. Without SEO, I was thinking 40 an hour seems reasonable. Is that too low? In my opinion, switching copy and images is very simple so I don't find it anywhere close to the value of $100 an hour (again, I understand 100 was based on SEO services as well), but I understand that being able to handle a WordPress website requires some expertise. Maybe 50 an hour is reasonable? Again, there is no layout changes that I know of and if there are, there is a main developer who can take care of this. My role is just to do the minor stuff since the original developer who built the site does not have time it maintain it.
