Freezing in game followed by black screen after alt-tabbing

In games (tried multiple, not only 1), sometimes (most of the time after 20 mins of playing) the game would just freeze. Sound would still work. I would only have one tab of reddit and nothing else running (8gb ram). I would sometimes be able to alt-tab, sometimes not, so I often just ctrl-alt-del then access desktop. I would be able see the taskbar at the bottom, as well as start programs, but the almost the entire screen (other then taskbar) would be black. So, I could hover from taskbar to check task manager and speccy (but couldn't find any problems), but would not show up on the screen that is black. I can also close everything from taskbar except for the game I was in. Since I have no idea what this is or how to deal with it, I always re-start my computer. It is annoying having to do this several times a day for a few weeks. I can send specific specs if relevant but I built my pc w/ my father almost a year ago w/ pretty damn good components. Also first time ever on this site nor do I know much about computers, so do not know which category this falls into...

(Going to essentially copy-paste from speccy)

CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 32nm Technology

GPU: 2476WM (1920x1080@60Hz) 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti (ASUStek Computer Inc)

Memory: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz

Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 R2.0 (Socket 942)

I have tried three games, problems with all of them. League of Legends, Civilization Beyond Earth, Civilization 5

I looked into furmark, do I download from the ozone site?

yes

also download prime95 and amd overdrive
run prime with smallfft option and post the thermal margin (amd overdrive) after about 10minutes

also run 3dmark basic edition, it´s a free benchmarking tool
after the benchmark click on compare results online and post the link which comes up in your browser

Alright, I'll get to that! I've been running furmark for around 8-9 mins now, does it stop automatically or do I close it (like when it reaches a certain temp but stays stagnant)? It's been at around 68 C for a bit

Hey, sorry, something showed up. I will try to complete the prime, overdrive and 3dmark tomorrow

After approx. 15-20 mins of the Prime95 FFT test, it is using about 92% of the cpu and the cpu temperature has reached 74 C. The thermal margin has reached around -4.5 C, but now is resting at -2.5 C. How long should I be running the stress test for?

I will try the benchmarking tool soon.

Yes it is. This is the one that came with the CPU. Should I try to clean and reapply the thermal paste (using current cooler) or change to a new CPU cooling fan?

Hey! Just wanted to know that we have replaced the fan and thermal paste w/ something much better. We have tried prime95, and instead of being in the negatives, it is now around 40 C! I seriously doubt this wasn't the issue, so thank you! It wouldn't have been possible without you! I will update you in a few days

Hello! Unfortunately, the same problem happened in a game 🙁. When we opened the pc to change the cpu fan, we noticed that the power supply was very hot. Would it cause something like this?

Hello! My dad just looked at the power supply. It is cooler master. At first, he told me it is RS-500-PSAR-L3 (he said L might be an E, wasn't sure) ATX 12V V2.3. After googling, the things that popped up is their "Extreme Power Plus" model.

Yeah, we got the cx-750, so I am just about to test it! I'll let you know in a few days if it stopped or let you know if it does it still

After many league games of nothing happening, it just did it again... What do you think it can be?

3dmark (fire strike):

Graphics store: 4 455

Physics: 5 616

Combined: 1 727

There's also a big 3 953 and circle at the top

My dad checked bios around an hour ago, but we weren't sure what to do. I'm going to let you know version in a few mins

Alright we'll run prime95 and overdrive

I also did heaven benchmark and scored 1182, 1190, 1189

Yeah, BIOS is version 2601. How would you go about updating it?

Also ran prime95 w/ amd, and checked task manager for performance. While using ~98% of cpu the thermal margin is around +34
