Afternoon,

I've been trying to trouble shoot this for weeks now and run out of ideas!

The system has passed all the HP diagnostic extensive tests, I've also run windows memory diagnostics and left Furmark running for a few hours to check the GPU.

3 year old laptop that started bluescreening. I've tried the following, none of which work. Each time I've made sure all drivers/BIOS etc is up to date.

  1. Fresh/clean Win11 install from USB
  2. Fresh/clean Win10 install from USB
  3. Downloaded and installed the official HP image using their cloud recovery tool.
Event viewer shows the following relevant lines:

The previous system shutdown at 11:57:28 on ‎23/‎12/‎2022 was unexpected.
Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation.

This seems to be a regular warning in the event viewer:

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Unless its a special driver, the chances of it being software if you installed 2 versions of windows and still get them, are slim. Regardless of what that test shows.
Unless its a dongle or something

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD
  1. Open Windows File Explore
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
  3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
  4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
  5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
  6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
  7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

appears to be an NVidia GeForce MX250
which you have - obviously

did you run the HP Support Assistant and check drivers? https://support.hp.com/au-en/help/hp-support-assistant
Where did you get Nvidia drivers from?

thanks, answers below:

I followed the steps for small memory dump, the system crashed a few hours ago but didn't create the dump.

Event viewer shows

Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation.

Yes I've run the support assistant to check for drivers many times!

Nvidia drivers from nvidia

Your system information doesn't seem to mention what ssd you have, would you happen to know?

I have to assume you never moved page file or changed its size?

If its not creating a dump. one possibility is its the drive crashing. Hard to write a dump to a drive thats crashed.

See attached, it seems to pass the HP Hardware diagnostics.

I've never moved the page file or changed size (and done 3 clean installs!)
