Hi all,

I have Internet disconnection problems since yesterday so I wanted to ask here for ideas. Since yesterday my modem started losing connection to the Internet very frequently.

If I manually restart the modem I get back my connection but it drops out again after 5-10 mins of regular Internet browsing or immediately if I stream a video or measure my bandwidth speed online. If I don't restart the modem then the modem restarts by itself after 15 mins or so and I get back my connection but the problem occurs again.

I have disconnected my wireless router to get it out of the way so that my modem is directly wired to my PC. I have tried my other two laptops as well. I have tried moving my modem to different rooms and connect to the walls there but same thing happens regardless.

So I'm wondering if this seems to be a modem problem or a signal problem? I have a home phone line and TV channels from the same provider and no issues with those so only internet..

I've called my ISP and they are gonna send a technician in two days to check it out but I wanted to ask here as well if anyone have any ideas what might be wrong. I have been using this cisco modem for years now without problems until yesterday..

Thanks in advance!

Do not directly connect your PC to the modem. This is not safe from a computer security standpoint, the router acts as your network's firewall.

Make sure all connections (Ethernet, COAX, etc.) are properly secured. Are you sure the problem isn't your computer? In many cases it isn't your ISP's fault it may be a faulty Network Interface Card or a corrupt driver.

I have tried two other laptops as well with direct wired connection to the modem as I've mentioned but the results are the same so it's definitely not my PC.
