Hi guys,
I just built my first tower, everything is fine, except for how the mic works, if it works...
I usually use headphones that have the mic attached, and I am used to just plugging it in, into the headphone jack, and both the headphones and the mic work.
I am using the Zalman Z11 plus case, and a GB 970A-UD3 mobo, so logically i use the jacks on the top. All the drivers are installed, and updated to the most current versions. I have tried the one from the MoBo's website for the sound card, and I have had it find a driver it self, but I still can't use the mic on the headphones. If I put it into the mic jack, it turns into the mic itself. I'm not sure how to go about fixing it, because I figure it should just work, like all the rest. :??:
Help please :bounce:

are you sure you plugged the case hdd plug into the motherboard in the correct spot? make sure it is plugged in correctly and in the same place, consult your motherboard handbook

also try putting it in the sound slot... though this may sound stupid mine are backwards so it is a possibility

Note: be sure to try the jack on the back(i think its pink) just to make sure its not a problem with the mic/motherboard

pss: make sure to try it on another computer just to make sure this mic i working

The mic is working, I use it on my laptop and phone all the time.
I tried the jack at the back, only speakers work, no mic.
I switch slots, but none can run both at the same time, either the mic works solo, or the speakers work solo.
The case hdd?

Sooooooo, you want me to uninstallt he mobo driver? e.e do I let windows look for the driver for it, by itself, to reinstall? And the comp won't instantly crash or anything will it? 😵
The jacks work, its just that the headphone jack does not support mic function, like that of a laptop etc.... idk I wonder if I have to get something like a 2 prong adapter for both jacks so it works >_<

Analog ftw xD
Well I know you get the drivers from the manufacturer's website, but what I meant was how do you uninstall, or I don't need to uninstall to update o.o?
It's a rev 1.2 right? feel so lazy zzzzzz I hate opening my case haha it's such a pain...
I'll try updating the bios tomorrow, I think I remembered finding the driver, but I never actually DL it o.o

Got the driver, looked that the update thread posted.
That's for an Asus board o.o is it the same for GB?
And this is what they call flashing O>O
Is it done the same way for all boards? o.o

OK, I just finished updating my bios, and its stil the same..... I can't use the mic on the headphone, while plugged into the headphone jack on my Zalman Z11 case....
Am I the only one with this problem? zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

strange, can't edit my post above without getting a 404 error.

Anyways, one of those 'I have to ask' questions.

You have looked on your mobo manual, and confirmed which jack is for headphones and which jack is for mic right?

These are NOT usb headphones, right? (I know I asked that earlier, but want to confirm one more time because it sounds like it)

It will have nothing to do with the case. it's the I/O and mic jacks, lol.
It's possible it's a dud.
Just gunna go ahead and act like a tech support phone call and say:
Have you made sure it's in the correct hole, pink for microphone?
Are you sure it's properly inserted into the correct hole, all the way pushed in.
Can you uninstall all drivers for mobo and headset (if any)
If all else fails, get your trusty ol' WARRANTY glasses on or go get a splitter to usb

Hope my uselessness helped.

Ok... this kinda lightened my mood and gave me a laugh lol.....
What do you mean which jack is for headphones and which is for mic? They have the symbols on the case and back panel to point that out..... I'm not that far down the ladder @@ lol.......
These are NOT usb headphones. They are regular, analog, whatever they call them, NOT usb.

@marqol
So it's possible that the jack's ability to bring life to both the mic and speakers in a headphone/mic set, was nonexistent? QQ
What makes it possible for one to use a mic on ones headphones by using the headphone jack anyways?
Going to have to pull my case..... it seems a SATA wire isn't connected -_- anything in particular i should look for while I'm connecting back the wire?

his problem is clearly that his headphones/mic have one plug, when the motherboard/computer wants it to have a separate input and a separate output - a line in for the mic and a line out for the headphones. I've seen this problem before, on a standard 1/8th inch jack, there is an extra connection "ring" on the jack itself that is unused by the headphones, some manufacturers use this as a way to add a mic in. (see apple headphones w/ mic. they do this) but your motherboard and case clearly don't support this 2-way over one jack deal.

my 2 cents.
