Just put this computer together but started with the Dram light coming on and wont go past there. Thinking this was the RAM we checked compatibility and their is conflicting info on what works and what doesnt but manufacturer says it works. They also said this MB will work with this chip but some say I may have an old BIOS. I'm no genius, just building this for my son for Christmas and not getting anywhere. 5 days after Christmas and its still in pieces and we missed Christmas because I got covid and everyone had to isolate. Really would like to get this running for him, please help.

MB-Asus Tufgaming B550 Plus
AMD Ryzen 5800x
Castle 360EX CPU Cooler
Ballistix Crucial 2 x 16gb DDR4-3200 w/ xmp (Orignial)
G.Skill Trident Z neo 16x2 DDR4 - 3200 (Replacement to get past Dram issue. Still wont boot)
Corsair RM1000x

Right now these are the only components installed

Hi criyi.

I hope you're feeling better now. Must have been a hard 2 weeks.

You're probably right when you said it was the BIOS. That motherboard needs BIOS version 1004 to support that CPU.

You're lucky tho! Your motherboard can be BIOS flashed without a CPU installed. Which mean you don't have to go to a store or buy a new CPU just to post.

You see the USB port at the back of the system called "BIOS"?

Here are the steps.

Here are the steps.

  • Download the latest BIOS from there - https://www.asus.com/Motherboards-C...ll-series/TUF-GAMING-B550-PLUS/HelpDesk_BIOS/
  • Extract the files to your system and rename the BIOS file (TGB550PS.CAP) using BIOSRenamer.
  • Put that file on a usb key
  • Put the usb key in the BIOS usb port
  • Make sure that your CPU is not installed. The system must be shutdown and the CPU off the motherboard.
  • When usb is in the BIOS port and you're ready press the BIOS button at the back where the ports are.
  • You should see a light flashing for a few minutes.
  • When the light stop flashing wait a bit to be sure.
  • You can now install the 5800X.

Thank you so much for your reply, I'm gonna get to work now and report back. Thanks and I am feeling much better now, still in quarantine until 1/3 so can't really spend time with the family. Just trapped in a room eating cheap door dash takeout

OK so that definitely made a difference. It fires up, goes through the lights, fan goes to high then goes to idle speed and acts like its on as normal but no matter which HDMI I use, graphics card (Gigabyte 3090 I just put back in) or the MB HDMI I see no signal. I even installed the Windows clean USB but nothing happening, just sitting there looking cool.

I checked GPU connections, one plug was not seated 100%. Restarted computer and she is working. I cannot thank you enough, thank you so much for your help. My son just came home and he's like "Why are you out working on this?" I said, I fixed it and he got this huge smile. So awesome. Best part of my Christmas!

I have no idea if you had the good BIOS and your issue was just the plug or if it was a combo of both but I'm happy that it posted and I hope your son has a lot of fun on the system! :)
