Hello everyone, today I built my new pc configuration , I turn it on and everything is fine, then I get into the windows 10 setup (the OS build is august 2024 if it matters) and my screen freezes during the installation, I restart and redo everything I get past the setup and everything is looking fine for that moment (got the OS installed) Since then every 10 minutes my pc would either just freeze (literally cant move or do anything, but screen nd pc are still on) or restart without indication (black screen, my entire setup goes off). Literally does it out of the blue no matter what I do, it’s doing it on idle as well. I’ve only installed few programs to run benchmarks and track temperatures , only thing I did in bios is change the memory frequency to 3200. Any idea what could be causing this? I am suspecting the power supply

Here is a screenshot from the event viewer - https://prnt.sc/WCboZ3b6Ko8H

My build:

MOBO: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Formula x570
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900x (cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE)
GPU: ASUS Geforce GTX 1050 2GB (temporarily)
RAM: G:Skill Trident Z Neo RGB 32gb 3200mhz CL16
PSU: DeepCool 700W PF700D 80+
SSD: ADATA Legend 900 Pro 1TB
HDD: Western Digital 1TB

Any help is appreciated ✌🏻

You have an X570 chipset motherboard, that's not a new platform. Judging from that, are they all used parts?

PSU: DeepCool 700W PF700D 80+
That's a horrible PSU.

BIOS version for you motherboard?

Only the MOBO, CPU, and RAM are used parts, bought all 3 of them from one person (gpu was from my old configuration but i bought it brand new back then). I already benchmarked them and they turn out to work as intended and pretty well. I will get back to you with the BIOS Version in few hours, as far as I remember previous owner told me he updated the bios to latest version around april-may.

Should I return this PSU and buy a better one?

Check fan operation and airflow, particularly over the CPU and power supply. If you have an M.2 SSD it could also overheat in that matter of time.

When you got this, as you say the three basic aspects came from someone else. If you reset CMOS and load only into BIOS or whatever screen it lands you on WITHOUT OS what happens over this same course of time?

Being honest here to say that a Peerless Assassin isn't going to be sufficient for the cooling needs of this CPU. It should be enough to load OS but don't run this system under much load with that. Did you install it? Make sure the cooling block plastic cover was off? Pasted?

Hard to make certain calls when you can't even get in to see what temps are, but that is what I suspect.

I just checked and the BIOS version is the latest for this MOBO - 5002

When I reset the CMOS and turn on my PC it gets me into the American Megatrends „Press F1 to run setup” I just press F1, get into the bios and everything is ok, then I just boot into the OS. Interestingly enough my pc doesn’t crash in bios

I think the Peerless Assassin will get the work done for not so heavy games and tasks, but I might replace it with water cooling ngl. Yes the installation was done correctly, the cooling block plastic cover was removed as well and thermal paste has been applied

I already benchmarked the CPU and it gives me normal temps, went through stress test as well it gradually goes up to max. 80c. Idle temps are around 40-45c. I don’t think the problem is from the CPU, I would’ve noticed by now.

Literally turned on my pc for 3 minutes just to check the bios version and it froze again 🥲
Don’t think it’s a software problem at all, more like hardware

Hi just a suggestion reset the CMOS and Install Windows 11 24H2. If possible upgrade your GPU to one that will perform much better than the GTX 1050 with your motherboard and the rest of the system. Also you may want to upgrade the PSU to 850 watts or 1000 watts 80 plus gold or platinum. Then your system will have more than enough reserve power to run your PC. Of course if your budget allows it. Please reply with your thoughts and decisions. Thanks.

Back with a small update

So I did a few tests today to find out if actually the PSU is faulty and just does not have the opportunity to handle my CPU

First, I took the current PSU and I inserted it into my old configuration to check if the problem would be still there and guess what - the old configuration with this PSU actually works normally and there is no crashes or freezes at all. So the PSU is not faulty, at least for the old configuration

Then I wanted to test if there would be any difference with a slightly better GPU so I took from my friend his ASUS GTX 1070 8GB, pumped it into the pc and unfortunately the results were the same (my pc still crashes and freezes every 5-10 minutes)

After that a friend of mine told me to test my RAM using memtest86. So I installed it, hopped onto the test and after 50 minutes of testing my RAM passed the test with 0 errors.

Lastly, I decided to try and install the latest Windows 10 on a different usb flash drive (makes no sense to ever try that, but I was just curious) I can’t even make it to the installation screen anymore lmao (it just freezes 1-2 minutes later I get into the setup)

The other day I benchmarked the CPU when the PC was not crashing every 5 minutes ☠️ and it gave good results, so I don’t think the CPU is faulty at all

Interestingly enough my PC does not crash or freeze in BIOS or memtest86

My new PSU will be arriving in 2-3 days, this time I spent extra money on it and it’s a 750w 80 plus gold, hopefully it works
