[SOLVED] From GTX 980ti to RTX 2070 worth ?

Hey people, hope you have/had a good day, few questions I have if you could help me out please:

1) Is it really worth to upgrade now from GTX 980ti to RTX 2070 or just wait for upcoming GPUs in future ? I know I could go with better GPU, but this one seems to be fine for the prize range.

2) Will my i7 4790k OCed 4.6ghz(watercooled) still be enough for RTX2070 or upcoming GPUs ? Or should I maybe upgrade to 8700k or 2700x. But that means another money for MBD and RAM, which I dont really want to spend if not crucially needed.

So I am still on i7 4790k OCed to 4.6ghz, 16GB RAM 1866mhz CL9, MSI Gaming 5 Z97 all that power by EVGA SuperNova G2 750W. I have both CPU and GPU watercooled. Running windows on SSD, the rest on SSHDs.

I am currently using 144hz monitor. I am huge gamer and I play really anything from easy CS: GO to heavy games like Shadow of War or Division. I like to run games on as highest settings as possible to have at least over 60FPS, but the higher FPS the better to go along with 144hz monitor I have. Radeon 7 is coming, altho that is 700€ card, dont really want to spend that much if not really necessary for my needs. Or if maybe 2070ti gonna happen ?

You are probably looking at in the area of a 30% increase in performance going from the 980 TI to the RTX 2070. Whether or not that is worthwhile to you for the cost of a 2070 is something only you can answer.

IMO, yes, your 4790K@4.6Ghz is still good enough for use with this card. Consider, there are plenty of people out there using Ryzen 5 cpus with 1080 TI's and RTX cards, and your 4790k, especially overclocked, should have better single core performance and in most games, enough available threads that it's still better than the Ryzen due to it's IPC and single core performance. Personally, unless I was playing titles that I KNOW for sure can benefit from 12 threads I'd take the 8 threads of your Haswell refresh platform all day long, especially if I already had it.

Certainly you'd see some increase in performance from a newer Intel platform, and possibly even from a Ryzen 7, but I don't see a glaring need to do that unless you have a lot of free cash or are having a problem with your current CPU performance.

Probably not worth it. Just too small an upgrade I would think. Unless you are constantly hitting 6GB of VRAM usage, then it might make more sense to see if you can track down a 1080Ti.

Nothing wrong with an i7-4790k and 16GB of memory. Probably stick around for a few years yet.

Radeon VII will likely be in similar performance range to the GTX1080/RTX2070, so that probably isn't worth it either.

I suppose it really depends on games and future games you might want to play. I'm looking to hold out until Nvidia's next process node shrink.

Well, depends if you can get anything for your 980Ti, I have the same card as well, to me it's definitly not worth the money for 30ish% but if you can sell your current card it might close the gap, 200$ to upgrade your card sounds way better then 500$

I've got a GTX 980 and I am not even considering anything less than a RTX 2080/GTX 1080ti.

Just not enough performance increase to justify the price.

I'm gaming at 1080p and getting 75+ fps on AAA titles and 160-200 fps on Esports titles.

I'll only upgrade if I can get 150+ fps @ 1440p and currently there's only 3 "consumer" cards that will do that. GTX 1080ti, RTX 2080 and 2080ti.

A 2070 can't play at 4K? I just got a 2070 and i5-9600K. Did not buy a new monitor though, as I still plan to use my 24 inch 1080p 60Hz Acer monitor for awhile yet... but still want to know the answer.

Probably get somewhere between 45-50 FPS at 4K if you left everything on high/ultra with an RTX2070. 1440p makes more sense since you'll get around 90-100FPS on average.

Keep in mind you tend to keep monitors a lot longer than GPUs. So investing in a high refresh display now will pay off in the future.

So basically I'm building a really great PC for 1080p gaming but not so much for 1440p? I rather be able to play on Ultra right now in basically all games with max FPS possible so I'm still fine with 1080p for now.

Probably not worth it for you. Looks to me like most AAA games at Ultra settings 1080p only see about a 15-20fps advantage using the 2070 over the 980 TI.
