My original case had 1 "Audio" cord (below top left) the connections on the front never worked when hooked up to "HD_AUDIO1" on my current (old) motherboard. (new one arrives soon) I got a second Front Panel with "HD AUDIO" cord (below bottom right) it works and I kept both installed for the USB's on them. both the motherboard pictures below are from the new motherboard on the way.

The new motherboard has:
SPEAKER (for beeps I think)
and F_AUDIO1
no HD_AUDIO

The mobo says ALC662 5.1 channel, i looked it up it looks like it is HD Audio. It's not gonna be different for the front and back of the pc, is it?

What is the worst that could happen if I was wrong and it isn't HD Audio, and I stick an HD AUDIO cord onto the F_AUDIO1 pins?

The mobo will not even come with a user manual, but at least this is my last question/concern lol

which mainboard is it? alc662 is quite dated, u sure its something new?
anyway no matter which one it is, go into bios and check sound settings there, front panel should be configurable as ac97 or hd audio
set it to hdaudio if your dated board supports it
wiring is same btw, so no harm there
just it wont work in ac97 mode, thats all
