Front panel audio jack is acting weird

The audio jacks on the back panel work perfectly. So does the jacks on the front panel, but the audio jack for the front panel only works if my speaker is plugged into the back panel audio jack. When the speaker is plugged into the back audio jack and my headset plugged into the front they both work at the same time. Yet if the back panel isn't plugged in, the front panel audio jack doesn't work at all. How do I keep both of them plugged in but make it where I can choose where the audio comes from?

Do you have Realtek HD Audio Manager on your motherboard? If yes, see if this tutorial helps.

That must mean your speakers are auto detected when you plug them into the back of your motherboard, but your headphones are not being auto detected when you plug them in the front. To activate your headphones in the front audio jack you need to manually set them as the default audio device in "Control Panel > Sound > Playback". Right click Headphones and select "Set as Default..."

I can't do that since the computer detects the headset and the speakers as one thing and not as two separate things.
