I just built my first PC yesterday, and it worked great! and when I went on it this morning, the power button was flashing. So i turned my system off and tried to turn it back on. Then i had to go to school, so i turned of the power supply for the day hoping it will work when im back. But when i got home it still didnt work. I tried taking out the front panel connectors from the pins, and plugged them back in. It worked after a while, but then it suddenly turned off. From there, i googled my problem and saw that it might be the screws in the stand off being TOO tight, so i unscrewed them a bit. obviously that didnt work. then i tried holding a copper wire between the 2 + and - for the power button connector, also didnt work. AND NOW IM HERE. I have no clue whats going on, but im kinda pissed that i just built this thing yesterday and its already acting up. Can you help?

Sidenotes:
1. the leds on the motherboard are on, the motherboard is most likely not dead.
2. I have an Asus M5A99FX motherboard, for reference.
3. my case is the: LEPA LPC307B-B (U3) Black USB3.0 Mid ATX, for reference.

What I am going to tell you is a workaround and not a permanent solution, you could try it, nothing worse will happen. Just swap the "WIRES" from your "POWER BUTTON" to "RESET" button. Meaning, now your RESET button will act as POWER button, now press the RESET button to power up the PC, see what happens ! Good luck.

unfortunately, that did not work..

i took the whole thing to the store i bought it from, and they found a motherboard damage and refused to replace it. i have 3 year warranty on it and i bought it 2 days ago! i dont know what to do.

That's really unfortunate. If there is no physical damage on the MB, you should contact the ASUS Service Centre for a replacement. Don't give up your hope, physically visit the service centre with the MB, or talk to them and mail it to them, whatever is convenient for you. If they ask you what happened, just tell them its not booting and nothing else. And don't mind me saying, if you are not old enough to do things on your own ask someone elder to help you. Good luck.
