So I had mediacom internet for years it was down all the time lagging and pretty slow for the price I was paying along with the cap limit. I just got frontier installed yesterday at my house since it was less then half the price I was paying with no cap and I have the "high speed internet" so it was supposed to get more mbps then i got with mediacom... Well anyway it was installed by the time I got home from work last night and I've had nothing but issues with it. The internet will work for about 5 minutes then the modem's blue light will go off saying that it lost connection to the internet then it will come on in about 2 minutes and drop again in 5-10 minutes. I play online games a lot and watch movies and this internet makes it unplayable. I watched a movie last night and it took me at least 10 times connecting to the movie because the internet went down... Is it the modem? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I'll buy a new modem if it will work. I had my router in the hall ready for them to hook their modem up to it but nope I got one of their crappy modems with a built in router... When my router is an asus rt-ac1900 router. I really need the internet fixed since I also take college classes online and do play games but I've saw so many complaints about the same problems I'm having with frontier... Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue? Or should I get a new dsl modem and hope that works?

I called and was on the phone with them for an hour and they kept on redirecting my call and they said i shouldn't have issues because I have the highest speed settings.... They couldn't figure out was wrong with my internet either.

This is one of those times it is nice to have a ISP owned router. Tell them to come out and test while you are there. You want to see their pc plugged into the device test to one of the speedtest sites and show it gets the rated speed. As long as it happens quite frequently it should happen while they are there.

They will of course have a charge if they find nothing but you can be pretty sure with the type of failure you describe it is not a software issue on your pc. Since it is a new install even if the router is the cause and they in effect sold it to you rather than renting it there should still be a warranty

Now if happen to have a dsl router that is compatible you could plug it in to test...would quickly prove it was their router.

It is most likely the phone lines. This is why I never let a ISP install unless I can stand there and watch them verify it gets the rated speed on their pc before I let them out the door.

I called and had it run a diagonistics over the phone which they did. The reason it was crashing was the person who installed my internet didn't type in the ip address in the search bar and change the channel so I had to change it from auto to 1,6, or 11. So it started working better and the guy was suppose to dig and bury my internet lines in my yard since he didn't want to connect it to my yard and it's not been buried she said that's also whats slowing it down the lines aren't supposed to be out in the open. So they are going to dig tomorrow and bury the lines. Other then that it hasn't crashed since I had to change the channel it was on...
