Hello, my PC had been running fine since June 2016 when I purchased it, new.
Motherboard: MSI Z170A-SLI Socket 1151 Motherboard - Z170A-SLI
Processor: Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake Quad Core Retail -
Memory 8GB DDR4 2400MHz
Solid State Drive: 240GB Solid State Drive
Hard Disk Drive: 3TB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive
Graphics: MSI Geforce GTX970 4GBOC - MSIGTX970-4GD-5TBW/OC
Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64 bit OEM
However , I seem to have a fairly serious problem. I notice that the computer reset 2-3 times over the last 2 months (which I initially thought was just due to heat / bad luck), then one day it reset and just would not boot at all.
I've had a look at the forums, but can't seem to find the same issue, that is even preventing me from doing a clean Windows 10 install.
After the initial boot screen (CPU / Memory / HDD all fine), the windows logo loads, then it either show the windows logo or the logo and text stating "preparing automatic repair" - it will then either freeze (I've waited over an hour - there is no circle to indicate loading) or just reset and repeat the above.
I've installed (via Rufus) clean Windows 10 ISOs to 2 different USBs and used a Recovery DVD and everytime I get the same result, it either freezes on logo / shows text and freezes (after the first 30 seconds it's not even reading USB or DVD - I've waited an hour and again nothing happened) or it just resets. I have been into BIOS and;
- Checked the boot order
- Ensured that fast boot is off
- Tried all combination of Windows 7 / Windows 10 compatibility
I've tried;
- Updating BIOS
- Cleared CMOS (jumpers on board)
- Installing a DVD drive and attempting to boot from Recovery DVD
- Disconnecting one HDD at a time - even with all HDDs disconnected, it will not boot to a USB
I MSI Z170A-SLI motherboard, during boot the debug lights each flash once then extinguish, which I believe is normal and there are no error messages or beeps to indicate hardware issues.
I'd be happy to reinstall Windows 10 - all the data is stored on different drives, but I can't even get to the point that I can do a clean install, as it never gets passed the initial windows logo.
I can get to the UEFI command line from BIOS and used this to copy the few useful files that were on the main HDD. I can read the USB fine for here and tried kicking off the install, but got the same results.
I fear that the motherboard has died, but would like to know if you have any suggestions?
