Frustrating audio conflict between realtek and amd drivers - microphone receives computer sounds as input but doesn't hear me

Holy snot balls this is driving me insane. I've been trying to stop this for a few hours a night for 4 days now. Here's the background:

A few days ago, I clicked without thinking on an AMD Catalyst Control Center auto-update and upgraded from version 14.x.x to version 15.x. After rebooting my computer I noticed the Soundswitch application was no longer working to switch between my HDMI-connected HDTV speakers and my line/mic in headset. It had worked perfectly for a few months until this recent update.

After noticing that soundswitch was no longer working, I began researching it and it appeared to be a fairly common issue with this particular driver version interfering with the native Realtek drivers. The new driver was attempting to take control over the HDMI line and monitor and fighting with the Realtek driver. The result of this was when I set the monitor as the default communication device or right clicked it in the playback devices and clicked "Test", I recieved an error that the device was unavailable because it was currently being used by another application.

The first suggested solution was to roll back the driver under the monitor > properties > controller information > properties > driver > roll back driver. This had no effect. Many restarts, tweaks, and little fixes here and there, I was unable to get the monitor to play sound any more. In addition, now my microphone on my headset was no longer working.

Eventually, I gave up and decided to do a fresh install of Windows 7 (which I had been planning on doing recently anyway). I hoped a fresh install would clear up any issues as I started with the original drivers and worked my way from there.

Lo and behold, after a fresh install, inserting the original motherboard driver disk and installing them, I have the same issues! I tweaked and played with the settings some more until eventually I got to the point where I could play audio from the HDTV again, but my microphone is still not working. It's incredibly frustrating.

Any audio I play on my computer is also somehow being sent through my microphone. I can tell this is happening because if I right click on the microphone and change the settings to "listen to this device", put the headset on, and turn on music, there is a .5-1 second delayed echo of the exact same thing I'm listening to, or whenever I click "test" on my headset (speakers), the bars showing the audio levels on the headset show there is audio traveling through both the speakers and the microphone portion.

Multiple installations of windows later, trying every which way and order in which to install these damn drivers and get my microphone working, I need a novel solution. Yep, I turned it off and back on. I plugged the headset into another computer and it works perfectly. New drivers, older drivers, original drivers, I messed with the BIOS, I plugged it into the front panel and back, I messed with every single setting in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. I don't know what the hell is wrong and would really, really appreciate any help I can get.

Hardware specs:

Motherboard: Asus M4A89TD PRO/USB3
Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 1055t
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
BIOS version: 08.00.15
Video card: Radeon HD5870 PCI-E connected to a Vizio HDTV via HDMI cable

Dxdiag "Sound 1": Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Dxdiag "Sound 2": Realtek HDMI Output (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Unfortunately that is when the issues started. I think this new 15.8 beta driver broke something and I can't get it to work again. It's not as simple as rolling back the driver either because I have tried using multiple different versions of the driver at this point with no luck.
