FTP on Linksys WRT1900ACS not working.

I've setup FTP on my router i.e. I've connected an external HDD to my router and I've enabled FTP. I'm able to access the content of the HDD in the same network but if I try to access the HDD from a remote computer I get a message saying "Server stopped responding".

Thanks,
Chandan

I presume hanging a HDD to allow an FTP connection to it is part of the routers firmware? Normally it would mean port forwarding port 21 to the FTP host machine. Are you connecting via a static IP on the WAN or a DDNS service?

Yes HDD is allowed for FTP and it is part of the router's firmware. I'm not sure about WAN or DDNS i'm new to this. I just followed the FTP setup instruction from here

On an external computer in any web browser "ftp://10.222.222.222:21" (not the exact ftp server).
