If you downgrade your video driver to Standard VGA then you can still do full screen command prompts in Windows Vista and above. This means that you'll lose any fancy 3D effects your current driver might have but all the resolutions are still supported.
Open cmd, type wmic. Then, double click the bar to maximize the screen. Then type exit (enter).
You are now in the regular command prompt in a maximized window.
Try this:
"Click Start and type CMD, but don't hit enter or click on cmd.exe.
Right-click cmd.exe above and choose Run as administrator.
Respond to the UAC prompt.
In the command prompt enter WMIC--you'll get a different prompt for Windows Management Instrumentation Control (but you're not going to actually DO anything with WMI).
Click the normal maximize button at top right. The Command Prompt window will fill the screen.
Enter EXIT to exit WMIC.
Right-click the Command Prompt's title bar, choose Properties, click OK.
Enter EXIT to exit the Command Prompt."

In windows 7 ,To change the screen size and buffer size, right click on the icon in the top left corner of the Command Prompt window and choose Properties. Then click on layout.
A good buffer size is height 300, whereas a good screen size is height between 25 and 50.

how can i have full screen on command prompt or cmd.exe in windows 7?
Actually, this is very easy to do...
1. Make a note of your screen resolution (1024 x 762 etc.)
2. On your desktop, create a shortcut to cmd.exe.
3. Once the shortcut has been created, right click it and select properties.
4. In the properties, select the 'Layout' tab and simply enter your screen size into the buffer size and layout size.
Hey presto, full screen.
For those of you that don't understand the 'need' for this, you are probably too young to remember DOS and even today, if I have problems with windows and permissions, it is more often that not easier to resolve in a DOS screen than from within window....
Right click command prompt>Cmd properties>Layout tab
Thank you! Now I don't have to click-drag the window bigger every time I want to run a quick ipconfig and be able to see all the info without scrolling.
