My buddy threw away his old tower and let it sit outside for 2 days . It lightly showered the first day. By the time I got to it, the case was completely dry. The case comes with 4 fans. The only visible damage is on the cases front usb ports and the front headphone / mic jack are all rusted. The power button is right next to the two usb ports and is plastic so I cannot tell if it is rusted or not. Upon further inspection, case fans molex connectors are indeed slightly rusted.

If i move my components to this case , will the rust affect anything? Could it short my PSU?

While I would not think there is much risk to your PSU, I wonder about all those switches and connectors. A multimeter might help you figure out what's what. A bit of rust on a molex connector can be cleaned off and should not be a problem. you are probably in for a bit of trial and error here.

Back in the day, I was given an IBM PS/2 that had been in a parts warehouse and no longer cleared post. It was missing an expansion slot cover and a mouse had used the opening as a door and moved in. He did what mice do all over the motherboard. I spent a few hours cleaning up the mess and the PC booted right up.

My point? You never know with things like these until you give them a try. Good luck with it.

I don't mind trial and error, I just do not want to ruin hundreds of dollars of parts in the process. If at worst nothing works and I have to move everything back out of the case that is no big deal. I'm just not really sure how rust effects electrical components is all
