funeral for AMD

I don't care if you think the "Extreme gamers" can make Intel push out faster chips; if there isn't anyone else better, Intel can do whatever they want.

Exactly. All of the fanboys may want to see each company go under but let's look at this logically for once. If Intel has a better chip, fine. Buy that one. If AMD has the better chip. Buy it. But to completely eliminate the other company is just stupid. Then as you said they can do whatever which is only good for the company.

If this is all true and such, then AMD will just have to improve their offerings, they won't just quit. The Opteron was better then Intel's offerings, but did that stop Intel?

Just my 2 cents.

Not to mention that competition is good in this case. If one company went under, then the other one can slack off and do whatever they pleased. Also, it gives a choice to people for selecting different cpus.

if you think about it, this won't be the funeral for AMD They have been in 2nd place sales wise eversince they have started. In 2005 Intel had 76.5% of the market share AMD a very distant 2nd with like 20% and the rest the Powerpc (mac). so if you look at it that away than AMD is already dead. So i don' think that the intel cpus are going to AMD any, because i am sure that AMD is coming up with there cpus also

Okay Boys

i just thought id throw in my 2 cents on this one. (this whole who's better i find funny)

So her we go. While Intel and AMD are great compainies people should reailize that the processor and GPU war has been going on as long as i can remember. Both of the companies are good and have a long reputation of bringing great product to the world.

Now, i have used both AMD and Intel and i like them both but AMD will always hold the processor space in my pocket book as it will for many gamers and non-gamers.

Intel has made their reputation in workstations and laptops where, AMD has always tried to cater to the gamer in all off us.

As for the new processor release. WOW, i have never seen any one be that excited about an Intel release. you should also know that AMD will take the proformance crown back in a few months, thats if the proformance charts that have been given to us are accurate. we all know that manufactures provide bad info at times to make their product sound better. its just a fact of life.

for those of you that have gone and read the other posts please keep it kind. we dont need people going postal on each other.

AMD beter not die! May go in the red though.
A $530 chip will be out in about 4 months that just moped the floor with their $1000 flagship!
Wake up and open you eyes or clean the sand out of them!

You guys already look like idiots. Stop while your behind or look even more retarded.

They made it blow out FPS with a hack? AWESOME.

So what. The FX could be a little better. The conroe stands on it's own. Toss the POS FX out.

Conroe, I think this fighting is useless, so I'll say this one last thing: Don't believe something just because you see it with your eyes, we can go back and forth for hours fighting, it's pointless. You can continue to flame me, go ahead, I won't respond. I know I was right about Conroe and I have proven it, good day sir.

I'm curious though about the price point. Doesn't seem logical to take (speculating) such a great chip and sell it for so little. Something just doesn't seem too right with that. That would also mean that Intel's chips would also be mopped by it. Just a little confusing there that's all. Six months is still a good period of time but to drop prices by that much?

The 65nm process give higher yelds--more cores for the same price. Intel is just paying back AMD for that dumb law suite, and cutting a profit.
The $140 Pentium D 805 costs more to make.

Makes some sense but I would think that they would also be cutting their own throat in a way. Not that I'm against such a low price, but I would also think that it would hurt them in the future for pricing.

The future is 45nm, and then cost go down again. Maybe with less overhead in design aswell.

I realy do not want AMD dead. I love CPUs, not companys.

AMD (probably Intel too) is planning to scale down to 22nm in the next 5 years, should be interesting.

well, im not exactly sure what the details are at all, but, in addition to the competitive dependency that each company has with each other, that the consumer market craves, so no complete monopolies (in cpu technologies anyhow?)... ...each company is technologically dependant on one another... you cant get rid of one, a 'funeral' by any means... but you can have a performance/efficiency/other technological lead above the other company in one way or another, for however long it may be... when either company developes a techology, they dont have to disclose any of it to the other company, giving them the advantage for the time being... but after the release, for however much time after, the other competing company is free to incorporate it into their technology, however they may go about doing that...

i probably have some (or alot) of that wrong, and am certainly missing some details... no flames please

...just my 2 cents

Intel is a much larger company than AMD.
It is not surprise that they can regain the performance crown but I still hope AMD can catch up.
Competition is always good for customer.

sure is - thats what i was sayin till MadModMike got up me for it

this could make AMDs into what happend to the athlon xp's - cheap and fast

Even an ignorant with the intelligence of a bucket (like you are) should know that Rahul is one the bigger AMD Fanboys around.

@ Conroe:
AMD will NEVER die, NEVER. As long there is the Antitrust, Intel will always be forced to keep AMD alive.
Quite a few people actually dont know that Intel has already "bought" AMD a few times and it will happen over and over again.

bullshitter im glad your back where you been man? and did conroe spam you too?

spam!?!?!??! if its what im thinking thats low come on now.

why is everyone gettin up dvdpiddy anyhow? he agrees in some things like P3 being a good design (no true AMD fanboy would admit that) and i wouldnt blame anyone for not trusting intel because of the shoddy P4 but conroe is here to fix that, we should be happy its here - todays tech will be 1/2 the price sooner then expected!!!!
