funeral for AMD

Go home fanboy. Nobody needs your opinion.

I really don’t get all this “fanboy” lark. When I buy something I buy it because it is the best value for money not because it’s an Intel chip or AMD chip. Surely you should be happy that Intel are finally putting some pressure on AMD which will hopefully mean lower prices for everyone?

Currently I’m running a P4 2.4c Northwood. I brought that because at the time the 2.4 was the best value/performance chip on the market and it overclocked well! That was 3 years an now I’m looking to upgrade and I was interested in the AMD Opteron 144. Now Intel have previewed the Conroe I’m gong to wait until it is launched and see what the prices are like. On TGdaily the review chip was priced around $216 which is about £180. If that’s the case at the launch date then I’ll be getting the Conroe unless AMD can pull a white rabbit out the bag.

look apache i loved my p3 for what it could do ok man i could get more fps on that than with an athlon at the same speed but since amd got sse into their procs the feild was about even northwood was ok but all prescott procs sucked! prescott 1 for s478 sucked prescott 2 for lga 775 and prescott 3 aka cedarmill sucked cause of its long pipeline and its stupendous heat output i used to love going to compusa and pissin off the intel fanboys who were all running prescotts man that was sweet 😀 long story short yes p6 was a good architecture but k8 does beat it and k10 will be k8 with a few more bells and whistles so the playing field should be even in all arenas with conroe and am2(k8l) i just wish that you intel fanboys would admit that prescott got its ass wooped by k8 thats all i want to hear that prescott sucks and k8 beats it's ass but since most intel fanboys i know are stuck up they wont admit s**t do you agree apache that prescott was a failure?

actually it was the marketing department that intel should thank see if this was the automotive world intel would be like gm and ford make a crappy product ppl will still buy it but make the same crap for too long ppl go for whats cheaper and more efficient aka japanese cars like honda and toyota you know that honda is making an suv that is a hybrid its just like amd making an opteron that runs at a lower voltage look at gm there going bankrupt steadily but slowly because only their pickups sell heres a chart

----------------------intel=ford/gm amd=toyota/honda
pickup/server xeon/chevy opty/ridgeline winner= opty
sedan/home p4/tuarus a64/accord winner= a64
budget/budget celeron/malibu sempron/civic winner = sempron
efficient/mobile pentium m/saab turion/civic si = pentium m

thats how it stacks up (man my thumbs hurt) oww

Why is there so much talk about this Conroe thing?

I mean... it doesn't exist yet.

It's not launched and maybe that there is a reason for why it is not on the market yet.

Until it's launch, be happy with what's available, and that's the X2, cause every other Intel product is retarded compared to the AMD X2 or Opteron! (includding the 950 crap).

By the way, from my experience in PC's, some advice:

The HDD is the component that is the most "lagging" component (transfers up to 90MB/s best case with access time at allmost pornographicly lame levels if we think in computer speed [this is because the HDD has mechanical parts that simply can't go faster]). This is the main thing that we should talk about.

The RAM is the second fuck up component that affects us during heavy app running (transfers up to 6400 Mb/s with for DDR and virtually more for DDR2 ). There is somme bad ass latency here also that is killing our performance. This is the second main thing that we should talk about here.

The CPU... in our days, most CPU's are performant, i think that the other components are holding a system back.

Imagine a PC with RAM that works on clock with the CPU (say 2000 MHZ) at ideal timings 2,2,2,5 1T and a HDD with transfer rate of 6400Mb/s and access time close to that of the DDR.
Put that on a average mainstream cheap CPU (like mine 😀 and don't forget a real bad ass graphic card... not like mine :? ) and the PC will simply FLY.
I forgot the northbridge/southbridge bottleneck ... presume we have like an "NForce 7 Ultra or sommething"

See my point?

Why so much talk about the CPU? The CPU is fine, belive me, you don't notice the difference between 75fps and 180fps anyway!!! TRUST ME !!!

but... you get annoyed when you start to execute a program and the HDD starts to crawl and you wait for the swap file to be written and the windows is such an expert in managing these resources so bad... that ...surprise we blame the CPU !!!

The CPU is the fastest part in a PC and usually the top quality one (except for when you have a Prescott inside ofcourse or one of those Celeron things that should be banned... 🙁 )

Anyway I dont know how to explain better than this... FX60@2800 I believe is a great CPU but... it simply doesn't have support from the other components that are lagging it.

Cheers.

I think that what has people worried is Intel's habit of offering 90% of the performance of the AMD part for %110 of the price. AMD did the enthusiast community a huge favour by offering a faster processor at a lower price.

If Intel truly has the faster part then history shows that it's probably going to charge a premium for it. That would be a shame since we have been spoiled by AMD for the past few years.

I'm sure that AMD hasn't been sitting still and has something up its sleeve other than just a new socket...

this is an interesting point...I bet that if conroe does indeed take the performance lead....you can bet that CPU prices from Intel will probably go up......the only reason that P4's have come down in price was due to the fact they were getting owned by Athlon 64. If intel had its way the prices would still be in the clouds. See what a little competition does for all of us?

Really, then why does AMD sell thier best most wanted chips for over $1,000? And for that price these chips do not overclock worth crap.
If AMD dominated the market, they too would operate just like Intel, and infact are already doing just this.

i myself, am just glad intel finally came out with a top dog chip..

All this will do is drive the price of BOTH current TOP cpu's the Intel EE, and the fx 60, DOWNNNNN and that is the bottom line..
this is like the gpu wars, first was intel, and they were on top for a long time, amd saw what intel was doing wrong and ran with it.... Now with AMD in the top spot, intel is doing what amd is doing, and avoiding what amd has done wrong.

Hence we have the shift in the leader board. nothing changed since the 386 days..

All i want is a nice cpu, - care less if apple made it, long as BF2 runs on it.

Do you think Im gonna do what some piece of crap wants to tell me to do?

@ rippley:
Id say prices for EEs and FXs gonna stay where they are. Theyre special CPUs with some kind of "Ooh!" around them =)

Aww hush hush with the funeral talk. Im not a fanboy of either. AMD has not come out with their new chip, like many other Im tired of running into these type of posting, so until then take a back seat.

I just love the fact that most of you guys think that intel is such a bad company......come on they are an american corp. they don't just give us a a faster computer, they give us JOBS,..........Thats right JOBS.......50K americans work for intel, how many work for amd??????? Amd is based in the good old USA but guess what 80% of their people work outside of the states. I don't want you to take my word for it..........do some research. I know that in the end that what you want is your moneys worth but come on people doesn't it mean more when it says.........MADE IN THE U.S.A.

Payed for by...... A Real American

FITCamaro makes me happy on the inside, I also went from AMD Athlon XP 2600+ to a 2.8ghz Intel with 800mhz FSB and couldnt have been happier about the switch...years later got P4 660 didnt see enough so I got the A64 3700+ Sandy and love it as well. I will most likely wait till a revision or two of the conroe, souly because I think my 3700+ still has alil juice left in it. The fact of this whole thing is, P4 is older than A64 and thats why I have an A64, when I get conroe it will be because it is newer and better than my A64...(if it trully is better that is, wont know till it releases, but w/e). The only thing that I trully enjoy from one company over the other...IMO of course is that I believe that Intel motherboards I. E. chipsets are better...work better for me...dont want to make anyone mad by the statement I just like the fact that they are Intel chipsets and not 3rd party. Overall, I love the AMD / Intel wars...they amuse me, so please keep fighting so that both companies will continue to try and win your loyalty, while I reap the benefit of potential lower prices and possibly better products!!!
