Funky Windows 10 Loading Issue...

Ok, so my father-in-law's computer is not booting up properly... History: He upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 back when it was a free promotion. Just recently though, he booted it up and when it got to the initial Windows screen, it asked him for a password... He never set up a password, he's never used one to log in, but it asked him for one and now he can't get past the password screen since he doesn't know the password he never set up... Also, the background for the login screen changed back to the default picture... Probably the most frustrating is the computer just randomly restarts all by itself after it boots up... I tried restoring the system back to a prior date, but it didn't let me. I tried rolling Windows back to 7, wouldn't let me do that either... My guess is the hard drive is in it's death throws, but I'm not sure...

Is the machine a laptop or desk top ? If desk top , perhaps the psu needs replacing. Or try the drive in another machine.

I think he has a virus on his computer try taking it to a local shop

If data on the HDD isn't important, then do a clean install of Windows 10

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... What I'll probably do is get a new HDD or SSD and then just copy the files he wants onto the new one...
