I got dinged for $15 by Canadian Customs. I'm starting to think that
they have flagged me or my address in a database since I've had
packages that had no business being opened by customs (stated value
below $20), opened and inspected when it could have been X-ray'd. The
deal is that once they open a package they can then charge GST/PST
based on the value of the product (a value they seem to take out of the
air) and a kickback of $5 to cover their additional expenses (whatever
those may be, perhaps for the tape they use to patch the package back
up . It's kind of like letting the cat have the key to the canary
cage. :-(
