Fury x or 980 TI

Solution
hey, isn t 4GB VRAM a little bit short for 4K gaming? I have a 970 and play 1080p, also i never monitor VRAm usage so got no idea how much it gonna need in 4k but I just remember people flipping out about the 970 only having 3.5 GB instead of 4GB and thinking 3.5GB will be soon to little for 1080p... Could be all wrong, just my thoughts.... 980ti have 6GB. - See more at: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2695711/fury-980.html#sthash.m6bMvcXn.dpuf

Well, performance is what matters in the end not the exact amount of vram. Both 980ti and fury x perform identical in 4k making 4gb of vram a non issue. I use sli 970 and 3.5 is enough for 4k as you should perform slighlty better than both cards.
depends how you look at it. 980ti is better in terms of raw performance, but the fury x is a better bang for your buck. I'm saying this even though both are about the same price.

The 980ti at $650 comes with a stock cooler, while the fury x at $650 comes with a very good water-cooling solution (probably worth $50-$80on its own). The result is that the fury x runs cooler and quieter, looks nicer, while only performing 5-10% worse on games.

That being said, I am currently looking to purchase a 980ti for myself, as I already have an open water-cooling loop and would prefer to use my own water-cooling solution (mostly for asthetics and quietness). If I didn't have a water-cooling loop, I would have gone with the fury x for sure.

For what? What resolution and fps are you aiming for? Do you have a 60hz or 120/144hz monitor.

The Fury has an edge at 4k but below that the 980Ti's wins. However at 4k neither is going to set the world on fire if only using a single card but definitely playable. If you go 4k I still feel dual cards are where you need to be and sli drivers are just better than crossfire and better supported by games. My conclusion, if going for a single card 4k setup then opt for the Fury but for anything else I would go 980Ti

I'm looking to run Battlefield 4 at 4k, at 60hz.

Well, from a pure performance standpoint, the 980ti is better in every resolution expect 4k where the cards are even. Fury x does come with a closed water cool loop that would cost another $100 (980 ti hybrid). I won't be getting a fury x due to lack of hdmi 2.0 and there is not other option for 4k tvs which is a big over sight by amd.

what im looking for is raw performance and future proofing, also i want to look into virtual reality, which i know takes a ton of graphics memory, so if i want VR, should i go with the titan X?

ive had bad experiences with sli and crossfire, , with battlefield for example, when i had2 280x's, ot doubled my fps from 30 when i disabled crossfire. i dont want to deal with that

To be fair, AMD has yet to release optimal drivers for the Fury X, but the consensus seems to point to the Fury X in terms of very high-res performance (courtesy of the HBM design and huge raw computation power), but for everything else - the 980ti does better. The competition will surely be greater in a month or two, when AMD offers better driver support

"Fury x or 980 TI
which one is better, which one should I upgrade to From a gtx 980?"

if you have gtx 980 and you want to upgrade, maybe its not the right time.just w8 for nvidea HBM gpu`s.
for future proofing im gonna test fury x how will HBm behaves.and say bye bye to DDR5. from DDR5 to HBM its a major upgrade.

im upgrading to a 4k monitor, thats why im upgrading, im gonna give my 980 to my dad and buy a 980 TI, or wait for pascal

I mean people report GTA 5 fills the 3.5GB completely in 1080p and people actually feel the stuttering once it goes over, can t say for myself cause I don t own this game. So what gonna happen in 4k?
But we will see soon whats gonna happen

Long story short, these cards trade punches. Much like deciding between a 290X and a 970, it depends on the games and resolution you utilize specifically.

However, the 980ti can be had a little cheaper at the moment. I'd go with whichever is the cheapest and has the best(if any) bonus deals on various sites
