Fury X vs 980 Ti (Performance vs PhysX)

im aware that the fury x has not come out yet but leaked benchmarks show it is more powerful than the 980 ti (they might not be true however)

I cannot choose between them. Usually i would just get the fury x because it comes with water cooling and is more powerful however the reason i want a graphics upgrade is because of Batman Arkham knight, a game that uses Nvidia GAMEWORKS very heavily. Because of this i am not sure which one to pick.

Would Fury X run gameworks? (and just offload physx to cpu?) or would the effects be too heavy? (im assuming they are just as heavy as arkham city) my CPU is an I7 4770K

I'll put in my opinion, considering I have a 980 Ti on the way right now. While the Fury X may perform a bit better, I went with the 980 Ti because I play a few Gameworks titles and the greater amount of VRAM. I know 4GB is fine for current games, but with graphics being pushed harder all the time, and some games already using 3.5+GB at 4K, I wanted to play it safe. On the topic of Gameworks, offloading PhysX shouldn't be a problem. I ran a test on my i5 4690K with Project Cars by playing the game with PhysX on GPU, and then on the CPU. It ran fine either way. However, other Gameworks technologies may not run, or may require modification (Hairworks in The Witcher 3). Both cards are going to run great, so just figure out if you want Nvidia technologies, like VXGI and Hairworks, or want a lower-temp, slightly faster option. I can't choose for you, but I hope this helps a bit

Thanks for a detailed opinion! AMD says that the 4GB of HBM performs similarly to 6GB of GDDR5, i'll probably go with fury x if gameworks besides physx works on it

HBM is much different than GDDr5. It allows for a mASSIVE bit bus interface which allows for more data transfers speeds.

However, i'd wait for some benchmarks. The Fury X is supposed to be a bit higher than the titan x, but a major OC to the 980 ti should make it neck and neck.

That's true, but wouldn't the watercooled fury x overclock much more and therefore be more powerful than a 980 ti OC?

Companies are coming out with 1.2 base clock 980 tis, so we will have to see how it fairs how
