I have the reno2 motherboard in a HP VICTUS 15L

Here are a list of supported cpu on my reno2 motherboard
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c08107634
It only lists intel 12,400 and 12700

But on the newer one Reno2R, 13th and 14th gen are listed as compatible.

Is this a case of hp simply not selling the cpus with that specific motherboard and therefore not officially supported? It's all the same socket. The renoR2 simply came later after Reno2.
I asked hp rep and he said it should work fine, but it's just not officially supported since hp never tested and sold that combination. I'm worried he might be wrong.
The bios is completely locked down. Is it possible I put that new cpu in and the old bios won't work with it? Just don't want to buy a cpu and have it not work.

The socket doesn't really matter per se, it's the UEFI firmware on the motherboard that determines compatibility, and it's specific to that motherboard. So unless there's an update specifically for that board that says it adds compatibility for the CPUs, you can only assume it'll work with what's been documented.

Can I simply flash update the bios to hp renoR2? Because I know that bios supports the chip. It might brick the computer though, so I'm probably not going to to do that.
