I'm currently in the process of buying parts for a new computer and once there was trouble with the delivery of my motherboard I also realized that due to it having a B250 chipset I wouldn't be able to overclock any of my hardware and since I probably won't be able to get a refund but can probably get a replacement. Am I able to upgrade this motherboard in the future without having to upgrade my CPU along with it? I already have the i5 7600k 3.8ghz CPU and it'll probably be a lot more effective with a Z-type chipset since I'd be able to overclock it. I'm just worried about needing to upgrade in the future but wanting to keep the CPU and wondering how difficult it'll be in general to upgrade a mobo.

Solution
"since I probably won't be able to get a refund but can probably get a replacement." then replace it with Z270 already. No need to waste money waiting and hurdle with B250. You are wasting your time and money you spent on K series.

If you can return the cpu, then return the cpu and motherboard, get $300 amd ryzen 1700 and cheap $70 AB350. Its worth it. i5 start to struggle against new modern games since it demanded more than 4 thread.

Good luck
