"Future Proof" Build

I've been using my pre-built HP PC for 4 years now and it wasn't exactly a beast at the time i got it. I currently play BF3 at 1280x720 everything set to low to get 50-60 fps in multiplayer.

I'm building a new PC for 1650£ maximum ( including windows 8 but not periphials) and i want it to max games this year, high next year medium in 2 years and low in 3 years.

Was thinking of going with
i7 4770k /w h100i
16gb 1600 vengeance ram
gtx 690

690 is not worth it at all, go with dual 780. you unless you render videos or do professional editing you dont need an i7. future proof is something that you will never hear in pc building since it all could change next year

Wait a few days for the new Radeons to get benchmarked. For sure you'll be able to play games on Ultra right now at 1080p, and probably for the next 2 years+ with that build though.

Just change the GPU.
Anything with 2GB only VRAM cannot be future proof these days...
Try Titan in the same price range or a factory o/c GTX780 like:

And later you can place an other GTX780 if you want...

First, thing to think about is the motherboard. For me the Asus Sabertooth line his HUGE value for the money. Second, unless you are doing virtual machines 8 gig of RAM is fine, RAM is pricey right now put the saved money elsewhere. Third, SSD, go Samsung, maybe the Evo line, fantastic speed and the best software suite. Fourth, the case, built several in the Corsair 650 D, LOVE LOVE it, brilliant design. Fifth, I agree with the other guys, blowing half you budget on a 690 is not wise. Two midline GPU's will give you plenty of power and hit a better balance with the budget.

Not entirely true. New era of gaming suggests that 8GB RAM might not be enough.

It would cost £35 less if I was placing Windows 7 home premium but they have limit on their memory (16GB), so if you want to upgrade your memory later you would need W7 PRO. If you want to go under £1650 just buy the home premium instead of proffesional.

Took your post to heart, started monitoring my BF4 beta runs at 1920x1080 and everything cranked to ULTRA settings, never got past 6.38 gigs of RAM used, with other programs open running as well as BF4. If it were me, I would still feel comfortable with *gigs of RAM.

Well, I post a benchmark review that I saw for BF4 Beta. And that's why its called beta. They might fixed it with a patch. But no offense, I trust the site reviewer more than an anonymous 2-time poster. You would do the same.
And by saying that already a game reached 6,5GB RAM, doesn't make 8GB RAM futureproof, does it?

Interesting that they used a test bed with 8 gig of RAM, wish that they had thought to include RAM usage in this article.
